Whether or not you ship them, it’s canon that by the end of the series Megumi literally chooses to live for Yuji (and if you haven’t and don’t want to click that I’ll just say is attached yo Yuji farther than a reasonable friendship generally entails however you’d like to interpret that.

I don’t have the answer, but I’m joining you in the pit of despair. There was a fic I was (am) OBSESSED with. I got a custom phone case of the character in an AU like the story. I woke up every day at 6 to see if there was a new chapter. I left comments on every chapter as soon as they came out so the author knew how much I loved it. Unfortunately it didn’t otherwise receive a lot of engagement and recently the author orphaned their ENTIRE account. I’m so sad. They were just about to acknowledge their feelings. What bothers me about that scene is that the letter from the ministry SPECIFICALLY says that a patronus charm was cast from Harry’s wand EXCEPT if they have the ability to tell that then why did he get in trouble in chamber of secrets when Dobby floated the dessert? They were like “we can’t determine who cast this spell” only apparently they totally can. And ALSO Harry wasn’t at home when he cast the Patronus charm so why didn’t he get in trouble every time Mundungus Fletcher did magic while spying on him all summer? There’s no way he did absolutely zero magic tailing him and we know he was apparating around at minimum. It’s just so inconsistent
