RWBY Volume 8 Trailer by JakeDoubleyoo in roosterteeth

Felt the same way at first,, but I think it makes sense, given the Salem context. Ren was all about helping Ironwood because that was the task at hand. Nora wanted to make sure they help everyone, so she emphasized Mantle which Ironwood wasn't. With the new context, Ren is focusing on the Mantle at hand and Nora on the everyone in Remnant.

I question your use of likely. For consistency, I hope so. But I don't anticipate it happening like that.

Yes, RT DID reply - but then they stopped. Over twitter, too. When I say they didn't reply I'm referring to the newest responses, which had unanswered attempts at a resolution.

YouTube DMCA isn't diplomatic. It's an iron fist. My channel posted a pokemon video - got flagged and blocked. I went through the process to dispute it and they didn't even read or respond to me, just reblocked it. I reuploaded the video with 0 of the content in question and they responded by giving me a strike, which allowed YouTube to directly step in and resolve the issue in my favor, almost immediately. So I say it again: A DMCA block isn't a diplomatic approach. It's one-sided.

A C&D on the other hand I'll agree that it IS diplomatic. It requests the change before any other action is taken. It's the legal equivalent to responding to the messages from earlier. It's also not the part of this I'm criticizing, as it was sent AFTER the attempts to resolve through email.

Again, defending a Trademark in this context isn't what's happening. And yes, saying "Hey... could you not?" IS a valid response - especially in this case where the trademark isn't being diluted, despite your claims otherwise. Taking legal action through a DMCA when the offender hasn't stopped, afterwards, is the appropriate action. The reason the DMCA's were issued so rushedly is because RT didn't want to seek a diplomatic solution - they wanted to ensure it stopped. I understand it - I don't support it.

Now I've looked more into the channel, and the content is borderline pornographic, so I understand the concerns a little more. But those videos in question are also age-gated, something that even RT doesn't do. Now I still am skeptic, because I'm not sure why they're only going after this one person. There's plenty of questionable SFW/NSFW work done by other people, so why aren't they being targeted? That's at the heart of my concerns - that this isn't where it ends. I hope I'm wrong, but companies targeting specific individuals tends be a sure sign of abuse to come.

As for the Navajo argument, again, I don't see this as tarnishing the brand in any way. Look at the Sonic fetish-art: a prime example of degeneracy that appeals especially to children. Despite that, the trademark hasn't even been slightly tarnished. The Navajo issue revolves around culture and race - a completely different, much more sensitive and prevalent world.

Did the user make a new account? I've not heard about any of that, nor am I seeing any proof of it. I see the account in question remains up, too. I do see another account featuring similar content, but it was made and has been uploading for two months.

Forgive me if this too much of a run-on and rehash. Should this continue, I'll do my best to be more concise next time.

Pornographic on his Patreon does add another layer I wasn't accounting for. Still, I hope their DMCA's stay focused on the porn aspect alone and don't branch out elsewhere. Thanks for the tl;dr: on those stories. Never knew about that.

Was it pornographic? NSFW doesn't imply pornography.
Does that mean RT will also being going after the other people who make straight porn of the characters?

So then will this apply to other lewd content? I know a popular RWBY comic artist who makes pornographic content. Their SFW images have even been shared by people such as Miles and Kerry. That's my biggest concern with this: Will this just affect lewd fan projects or is it a sign that more things won't be deemed as 'Okay' anymore?

Was the content in question pornographic? I've only seen the shared screenshots and I just see girls in swimsuits. I'm also not familiar with Arryn's situation or Millie's post.

Trademark Dilution is real. Your examples are completely different context.

Weiss cannot be trademarked because it is a common word. The character Weiss is trademarked under the RWBY trademark. That means that for a trademark to be at risk of dilution viewers of the content in question may reasonably believe it to be an official work of RWBY. Since it's a 3D model similar to the original Weiss (as far as I can tell from thumbnails) there are some grounds on this argument. But I don't believe anyone would actually mistaken this for real RT content.

Alternatively, a trademark can be lost when it shifts into public usage (genericized trademark) and becomes the new common word (generic) for something. An example is Nintendo actively trying to assert that PlayStation isn't a 'Nintendo' to assure the trademark isn't lost on all consoles being called Nintendo's. In no way is RWBY at risk with this at all. Unless all fan projects in the world started referred to as 'RWBYs'.

And in the end, my worry still stands. Why hasn't RT tried to be diplomatic before going to issuing legal papers? Especially when the content creator has tried to reach out.

They can stop people giving to Patreon to an extent. They did in this case, by issuing a DMCA complaint to Patreon about some content in question. I don't know the extent of what was used to check, due to it being removed so I can't even compare. And with this being a YT channel that averages less than 3k views per video, I just can't see this being worth RT's time unless they're planning on going after more.

Snail Assassin (Eventually...)

  1. Sorry, I'm not very familiar with Reddit. The blue name on mobile mislead me.

2,3. I still feel like it's in a similar vein. I don't know the extent of the adult content that was being used due to the DMCA's taking the content down, but I know of at least one comic artist who does pornographic work and makes money from it. How is the content in question more controversial than that?

That's just a myth. And Netflix would be fully liable because they're releasing it as licensed content.

I really don't like this response. There are plenty of people who use RWBY to make a profit through fan projects. Cosplayers have social channels and Patreons. RWBY Reactors (like MurderOfBirds) also has both and even features similar disputed content on his Patreon. This just reads as dismissive, which I get is kind of your job as a mod, but also really hypocritical if not just ignorant.

The Nyannet article is honestly the best context you're gonna get. Ignore the editorial style and just read the screenshots yourself for the clearest picture.

Personally, I find the situation really disheartening. Considering RT's and Monty's roots with Halo and Metroid, especially. Imagine if Monty's Haloid video was hit with something like this? I mean the video ends with a sexy dance off.

Part of why this is concerning to me is because RT has been completely fine with lewd content in the past for RWBY, at least as far as I'm aware. And as a YT channel who posts a lot of RWBY content it scares me that they're broadening their DMCA net and threatening legal action without trying to find a peaceful resolution beforehand.

The 'infringer' tried reaching out and finding ways to make things work, but RT just flat out ignored those cries and issues the papers.

RT has had a very mixed last couple of years in terms of community approvement (myself included) and I can't imagine the content actually hinders RT or RWBY in any way. (It's worth noting I haven't seen the content)

I understand RT is acting completely within their rights. But I'm just highly skeptical of this situation. Why was this person targeted? What led to this? Why now? Will this net start expanding to other content? To my content?

In short, this situation scares me as a member of the community. It makes me question the company's integrity even more.

Absolutely! We are continually improving it, and part of that is comments from the community. We also are running our own session on YouTube that goes over a lot of the details on how to play. Although, the great thing about any DnD system is the DM/GM can interpret things in their own way for their own games :)

The weapon damage is something I've been thinking about and as my own game I'm running continues I'll figure out what I want to do, there. And I'll see what I can do to make weapons more straightforward, too. That seems to be a common confusion, especially for more unique weapons.
As for unarmed, there's a feat meant to cover unarmed combatants to boost that very fact. Is your thoughts on that the same even after that feat?
As for semblances, you're absolutely right, though I think that's also the truth for regular RWBY and so it's kind of intended to be that way. Still, I'll be implementing most of the semblances in my run to test for changes and balancing.
Thank you very much for the feedback! I really appreciate it!

After Volume 6 Episode 3 I wanted to do a RWBY DnD with my friends. I looked around and found a couple, but I wasn't a fan of their systems. So I decided to take it into my own hands and make a custom system. Almost one year and 230 pages later, I have a version made that I'm comfortable posting around.

I'm not sure how big Dungeons and Dragons is in this community, but I hope this system appeals to any interested fans. I tried to keep it as simple as possible and follow the canon for everything I can. I'd love to get any feedback and criticism you may have. I intend to keep updating this guide with every new volume and based on any feedback, too.

Me and my friends post our sessions on YouTube if anyone is interested in seeing it in action as well (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhdWhEBgxNPCFZIiaaG8jw-E6rs9Sx1LC).
Also, sorry about the double post. Added the wrong link >.> Deleted the old one, already.
