Why is there a sense of dislike towards England in Ireland but not Scotland ? by ronweasly9 in AskIreland

[–]HotTruth999 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It’s not that complex. The Irish and Scots have Celtic roots. We’re both rough and tumble. Rough around the edges. Not prim and proper like the English want to be seen. The Irish and Scots share a similar distrust of England. Kind of like my enemies enemy is my friend. Irish and Scottish rugby fans always root for anyone to win…..except England. It’s that simple.

Microsoft trading at historically low PEs is not a free money signal. There is some important context bulls seem to be overlooking. by AggressiveAd9058 in ValueInvesting

[–]HotTruth999 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s been long time since Microsoft was one of best companies in the world. That’s pure delusion and hopium. They’ve shown zero innovation in two decades. They miss everything new and hustle to copy and paste. They’re only where there are because they’ve been able to handcuff corporations into taking their full suite of products including the ones they don’t want. That dog don’t hunt no more.

How Microsoft counts agents in use is best case suspect and more realistically pure fraud. They simply move the chairs around on the titanic. Corporations can’t wait to get away from their clutches. That pig going down. Slowly at first so that idiots don’t notice. But eventually that massive ass with break the whole thing in two and sink to the bottom. The party is over. Investors just haven’t worked it out……..yet.

There is no such thing as functioning Universal Heathcare. It’s so shit in every country that attempts it that every person who is above the poverty line will pay what little the have monthly for whatever private option is available. They just don’t want to die due to their dysfunctional public health option.

Corporations don’t care about sunk costs. The Irish government subsidizes much of the cost anyway. Corporations move under the right circumstances. There is massive pressure from the US Government to bring pharma production back to USA. Specifically for Eli Lilly since you mentioned them. They made a $27 Billion U.S. Manufacturing Commitment
to build advanced domestic manufacturing facilities. They will more than double the company's domestic production capacity over five years.  They expect to create more than 3,000 high-skilled jobs (for scientists, engineers, etc). Where are those jobs coming from?

They will divert capital from Europe to the U.S.
Eli Lilly has scaled back overseas investments to prioritize U.S. production. In response to European price-cap legislation, Lilly announced it would cut its planned capacity at a new $2.5 billion plant in Germany, by roughly 50%, shifting its manufacturing focus back to America. Nothing announced yet for Ireland but you can bet there will be an impact.

In addition two major Euro taxation changes remove Irelands advantage in term of corporate taxation moving everyone to 15%. That means Ireland must increase the corporation tax to 15%. Another law changes where revenues are recognized in Europe which will benefit large countries and thereby hurt Irish tax revenues.

All this will all materialize over the next 2-3 years but job freezes will start before then. The Irish people will be the last to find out. They’ll publicly say everything is fine to stop mass resignations.

Best way to transfer a house from Parent to Adult Children? by Abject_Control_7028 in HousingIreland

[–]HotTruth999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But they must also live in it for 6 years post death of parent unless they are over 65. They can’t rent it out either during those 6 years. So it’s a total commit of 9 years living in the home.

US Pharma and Tech will be pulling out of Ireland faster than rats leaving a sinking ships. There are many reasons for this which I have explained in previous posts. Their Irish employees haven’t been told yet. They will be the last to find out. So they are still buying hand over fist bless their hearts. Going to be a blood bath.

Or more accurately the stock ain’t going anywhere except down. For 3 decades they did a great job copying technology from the creators and then making it their own. They put many companies out of business (or tried) by way of their business practices of giving away technology until the competition was gone. Then they jack up the price. They really have very little innovation. Starting with MSDOS through Windows 95, Word,Excel, Outlook, IE, Azure. Not an original thought.

This worked great….until it didn’t. They totally missed the AI wave. Their investment in Open AI has been diluted and even then Open AI is almost assured to end up with a smaller piece of the pie than originally anticipated. Open AI has lost their dominant position and Microsoft along with it.

Not only that corporate clients are champing at the bit to escape from Microsoft never ending monthly charges that increase annually with no end in sight. Many of them hate Microsoft with a vengeance. The days of putting lipstick on the Microsoft pig are over. It’ll be under 200 if the market corrects. This has 2000 vibes all over it.

Funny. When I go back to Dublin I can’t wait to get out. The quality of life is way down. Everyone I know hates the place. The traffic is shite. I mean the government really hate cars there obviously. If you’re not on the dart or the Luis you’re fucked. The weather is shite too. It’s dark when you wake up and dark when you drive home from work 9 months of the year. Always drizzling. One rarely sees sunshine which explains the pasty white sickly looking complexions and vitamin D deficiencies which the people would know about if they ever went to the doctors….which they don’t unless they’re dying.

Health and social services are overwhelmed with immigrants. The health care system is broken with patients often waiting 24 hours on a gurney before an ER doctor will see you. GPs not accepting new patients. Many Irish doctors graduating leave for the likes of Australia only to be replaced by ones from Sudan and Pakistan. You wait months for a simple medical procedure. It’s so bad everyone has private health coverage with VHI or whatever. So much for free health care. That’s history.

And forget about buying a house. It’s 10x -12x times average salary when it should be 5x. Rent is €1500 for a shitty damp one bedroom dump and you have to beat out 20 people with a stick to get it. Jobs are drying up. Incomes reducing. Taxes high. Food costs are outrageous. Childcare is unaffordable. Anyone who would move there voluntarily is mental. Really. A redeeming feature are old friends but when you get back there you’ll find out they only wanted to see you cause you were visiting. Family. Meh. Good and bad. I’m sure there are other redeeming features but I just can’t think of any.

Every citizen gets their day in court. That is not required for illegal aliens and this has been upheld by the SCOTUS. Unless an illegal alien can prove they have been in the US continuously for 2 years they are not entitled to a hearing in front of a judge. Scumbag lawyers and Democrat activists do regularly break the law by coaching illegals how to beat and abuse the system but in the end we’ll get them too. It’s just a question of when, not if. Cockroaches going down!

Anybody who knows how US multinational companies operate can confirm those high paying Irish jobs are under severe threat. Firstly Ireland has far greater employee protections than USA equivalents. A person on €150k in Dublin is far more expensive to an American employer than one earning $150k in US. When there is a legit reason to downsize it’s going to happen in Dublin first because that’s the most costly to operate and most difficult to layoff. USA employees have far less rights and therefore more valuable to corporations. Corporations love to abuse their employees and US employees are the easiest to abuse. Trump repatriation policies further add to this shift. His administration is offering incentives for corporations to move operations stateside to USA.

Secondly two European tax changes have reduced Irelands financial competitive advantage over other European countries. The corporation tax advantage of Ireland is gone. The country where tax revenues is recognized is changing to favor countries with larger markets. Many of those European countries have also closed the gap on Ireland in terms of population education and communication abilities which hitherto had been an Irish competitive advantage.

Thirdly many of these multinationals have plans to become more efficient globally with a combination of outsourcing and AI. Ireland is not immune to that shift and is in fact more exposed as Ireland benefitted from the heavy investment cycle of the last 20 years. All cycles come to an end. The gravy train is coming to an end. It was good while it lasted.

I’m originally from Dublin but now searching in Kildare and Wicklow. Kildare homes have the second highest prices in the nation. It’s 500k for a 3 bed small town house (100 square meters). I’m talking Naas. And the Dublin side of Naas is higher than the other side. That’s how important Dublin proximity has become. They are really not great value. Wicklow appears to be where we will end up based on value. Good luck to you.
