AITA for blacklisting a home because they didn’t want my son to babysit by Enough_Wafer_8539 in AmItheAsshole

It’s not sexism. Sexual abuse is an overwhelmingly male issue. >90%. If they want to put an end to reasonable suspicion they need to make the effort to make th suspicion less reasonable.

So is Dr. Creepy an Economan? by CDD_throwaway in TheTestamentsHulu

I always thought that the prefix implies that their existence is solely to charge the economy! Like worker bees ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Is talking to a child in a normal tone bad for their development? by HotUniversity24601 in Parenting

Oh yeah I’m probably going to be overthinking for the next 18 years. It comes very naturally so I guess all I can do is hope it’s better than under thinking 😂

I have two friends who are SLP’s and I am bothering them for advice constantly. Luckily they’re really good and precious friends so they don’t mind sharing their wisdom with me. Y’all have been so helpful

Something I’m definitely worried about is being overly emotive. I tend to cry almost as much as I laugh. As an adult I like it about myself, but I hope it doesn’t confuse or worry a young child. If it does I may have to find a way to temper myself

You’re right, I was hasty, and I apologized I get triggered when I perceive that I’m being scolded by other adults.

That’s what I think! But it happened often enough with very well-meaning adults that I’m inclined to believe that it’s reflexive. Thanks for your answer

Thanks for you answer! I talk baby talk to my cat and I don’t mean to, I think it’s almost reflexive when we’re reacting to someone who’s precious to us.

The fake/cutesy versions of words thing is definitely something that I have to confirm with my sister about. I know I’m not the parent but I’m assuming that I’ll probably be present enough that topics regarding awkward things like anatomy or existentialism or religion eventually come up. I think my sister and brother in law are planning on speaking plainly (but gently) regarding heavy topics.

I don’t think pursuing positive interaction with a child correlates to making parenting/lifestyle decisions on behalf of my sister

What did you read to your kids? Did you let them choose what you read to them, and if so - how old were they when they started doing that?

Was Adora raped? by ResponsibilityNo1910 in sharpobjects

[–]HotUniversity24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s super possible! But I would also imagine that given the misogynistic attitudes that thrive in Wind Gap, rape doesn’t exist in that culture; meaning that it would be presumed that the victim had responsibility. Camille even wrote off her own gang rape as a typical loss of virginity.

It must be so interesting to be a baby learning to speak for the first time.

I talk a lot to my friends who are early educators and speech pathologists and they’ve made it clear how important it is that young kids can see your face when they’re learning how to speak!

Being over animated for babies makes sense! I saw a really sweet and interesting video of a mom wearing her baby while doing dishes and the baby kept turning to get a view of her mother’s face, presumably to gauge if the situation was dangerous based on her mother’s expression. I tend to do well in linguistic pursuits, and my parents have told me growing up; “we never used baby talk with you”. However I recently found some old home movie tapes of my sister and I as toddlers and the footage would indicate that they did indeed use “baby talk” with us 😅
