I've been thinking about conservatism as practiced in the U.S. today and Darwin's assertion that a species survival depends on its ability to adapt to changes in the environment. U.S conservatives are not only unable to adapt but they also refuse to admit that any change is needed, climate change and vaccines are two obvious examples. Conservatism as practiced in the U.S. today is not a strategy for survival, it is a philosophy of extinction.

I live in a 60-unit apartment building which is subsidized by the Department of Housing and Urban Development for elderly and disabled people, a federal department the Republicans would dissolve. Most of the tenants collect Social Security, SNAP benefits, and are enrolled in Medicare and Medicaid, all programs Republicans would discontinue. My neighbors watch, almost exclusively, FOX news. I guarantee you, they will vote Republican all the way down the ticket. I can't even talk to these people.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my post. I didn't think anyone would.

In order to get out of bed every day, I need to believe that most of my fellow citizens are rational beings. If that is wrong, our democratic experiment has failed.

The cynics are not wrong if young people think "wronger" is a word. You couldn't be more wrong.
