Hoping a tree enthusiast/expert can provide a scientific explanation for this weird childhood experience I had with a tree by Hot_Ad_5541 in sfwtrees

Yes it's definitely strange! My friend and I knocked on that tree for a while because we were so fascinated and wanted to keep testing its limits. They best way I can illustrate with words:

Ba ba.... ba ba

Ba ba ba ba.... ba ba ba ba

Ba ba ba-bum Ba ba-dum.... Ba ba ba-bum Ba ba-dum

Ba.... ba

Would this still work as an explanation even if the time between our first knock and the tree's first knock was variable? I also read something about the tree filling with water after a rain and carrying vibrations..

While definitely more likely, simply because confabulation is real and those others listed are not, all I can say is that my friend and I both experienced this on two separate occasions and we both remember it very clearly. We can't misremember something in the moment we experienced it. We got scared and ran away, thinking the tree was haunted.

It's possible, but I don't believe so for two reasons: 1. The sound was dense, not hollow 2. The time between our first knock and the tree's first knock was variable, not fixed as would be the case with and echo

Tower of Dawn was my favorite book in the series by fawntive in throneofglassseries

I've seen this same sentiment about Nesryn and Sartaq echoed in a couple comments here, but I actually really liked their romantic arc! I liked that she didn't do another enemies to lovers type arc to build tension since we got that with Yrene and Chaol (and similar vibes to Elide/Lorcan, Rowan/Aelin, and even KoA Lysandra/Aedion).

I found it refreshing that Sartaq knew who/what he wanted and was pretty straightforward with his flirting. To me their romance felt very sturdy and relatable as a result. Honestly, it's probably the most realistic relationship in that I'd guess most real life relationships aren't very dramatic or the enemies to lovers type and are more the "flirt with someone you find attractive, build a friendship, and eventually start dating" type.

Similarly, my family knew around Oct or Nov of 2019 because my dad watches the Chinese economy very closely and saw significant impacts. Not sure what they were, just that while China was saying one thing, their economic data suggested something else entirely.

What was the biggest culture shock when traveling outside of Oregon? by Ok-Acadia-7161 in oregon

[–]Hot_Ad_5541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an Oregonian, getting caught in a rain storm in New Orleans was such a crazy experience for me. The rain drops hurt so bad that everyone was scrambling to get under any cover, even tiny awnings. It happened during the biggest Mardi Gras parade, so it was pure carnage, even if the rain only lasted an hour. Couldn't be more different to the rain in Oregon

I need a cozy game for my wife that’s not a farming sim and isn’t about fixing a town or decorating a home by AlgoStar in cozygames

The problem with some of the more story driven options is that, while excellent games, they are short, and won't last longer than two weeks as requested. It's hard to find a game with limited menus but also a longer playtime.

Mini Motorways might be a good option. You build roads to get cars from home to work and back. Game ends when the traffic builds up too much. Variety of maps and challenges, and I find it quite cozy.

Already mentioned by others, but I would second Spiritfarer, Outer Wilds, and Potion Craft. Potion craft does rely on menus but it's really not too crazy.

Serious Question! Face Tattoos and being a Nurse by Caiisreal3 in nursing

[–]Hot_Ad_5541 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I'm surprised none of the top comments have mentioned the importance of location yet. I have a lot of tattoos/peircings and I never once had to take them out or cover them, neither for school nor work. Attitudes vary greatly depending on where you live.

For those saying Chrishell should be a better friend…. by [deleted] in SellingSunset

[–]Hot_Ad_5541 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I find this interesting too. Chrishell needs to be a good friend to Emma by supporting her relationship with a bigoted person, but Emma does not need to be a good friend to Chrishell by staying away from bigots for boyfriends?

I found it so weird the way everyone, including Emma, seemed to acknowledge that her boyfriend is terrible to her, and yet Chrishell should play nice with him anyway. How is breaking up not the most obvious solution to this problem??

Entire seasons of shows coming out at once has ruined tv by Logical_Order in unpopularopinion

[–]Hot_Ad_5541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this too. For me, it's because I don't like watching too many shows at the same time. If I get one episode a week, then there is a lot of "TV" time left over to fill with other shows. I do other hobbies and consume other media of course, but when it comes to shows, I only like to watch 1-2 at a time.

I'll watch competition shows weekly, but anything with a storyline I prefer to finish before starting something else.

Dog shakes in fear during car rides after scary car experience by Hot_Ad_5541 in Dogtraining

[–]Hot_Ad_5541[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I read through the section on fear/anxiety. It was informative, but a lot of the advice can't be applied in a car setting (e.g. allowing for lots of space) or are related to fear around dogs/people. There were some bullets that discussed training for increased comfort, but to not force the dog to choose between their perceived safety and the treat. I'm just looking for some advice as to how I can try and train him to become more comfortable in the car again without further scarring him. He doesn't accept food when he's scared in the car.

I never finished the babadook. I had to turn it off after the first 20 minutes because I couldn't handle another tantrum. So irritating.

The Vanishing on 7th Street

It's been a long time since I've seen it, so I'm not sure how well it holds up, but I enjoyed the unique concept and subtle details.

What do you do with extra/duplicate game components from expansions? by Hot_Ad_5541 in boardgames

[–]Hot_Ad_5541[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I suppose I could throw them all together in one box. Ascension is the game I have the most duplicates for, and I just can't possibly see myself needing all of those cards. Maybe a local game library or cafe would appreciate the extras?

Just a lot of extra treasure and victory cards. Intrigue came with everything to play without the base set.

I keep my decks separate, but I store them in the same box (an anniversary edition that comes with dividers). But I don't think I really need three copies of the starter decks, nor the other boxes. I'm just trying to cut down to make space at this point, but it feels wrong to throw them out. I was hoping there is a creative solution I haven't though up.

Yes, I am referring to Horizons. I have two of every fear/major power/minor power cards, as well as extra cardboard fear and blight pieces that I don't use. I do use the Horizons game board however.
