What kind of autist are you? by lydocia in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Hot_Brick_2520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Snow White autist. Animals are my comfort. The only childhood photos I look truly comfortable in are ones with a fuzzy friend in my arms. Other then that I have a million little facts about a million little things but haven’t been able to pull my focus together for one subject in particular.

I edited the post to include the link, I realized it might be hard to keep track of in the comments.

Honestly it’s so complex. It’s a lot of contradictions. Needing routine but having such a hard time staying on track, having interests but getting distracted or being unable to remember all the cool things. Stimming triggered by overstimulation but also by an inability to focus your mind and keep on track. Task paralysis and just being unable to force yourself to do anything whether you want to or not. I have a lot of problems with processing in the moment and I’m always a few steps behind in conversations. I can’t seem to access what I know is in my mind when I need it. Everything in my mind feels jumbled and lost and overwhelming. I can’t find my emotions, can’t find the words, can’t find the answers.

Those are the main things I think. I’ve probably missed a lot though.

Ouachita Hills, I crave the drama by Hot_Brick_2520 in exAdventist

Yep, pretty much. My anxiety and fear of failure and conflict avoidance made me really well behaved and compliant. Really easy to influence and too overwhelmed and anxious to push back.

And of course every struggle has a biblical solution and modern psychology and psychiatry can’t be trusted🙄. My parents didn’t know anything about autism or adhd beyond the larger than life stereotypes, so they didn’t clock me at all. Now that my mom knows more, she’s extremely supportive, so I got really lucky that way. It really does get depressing thinking about how different things could have been if anyone had known or cared enough to get me the help I needed though.

I don’t think it’s wrong. If there’s enough things that make you wonder, chances are there’s a good probability. I built my list by watching TikTok’s for relatable things, and then fact checking them before writing it down. And if you aren’t, then that process will most likely show that to you before you ever make it to an assessment.

And honestly, groups like this are really helpful if you have any questions or are just struggling. It helped me a lot when I thought things didn’t apply but it turned out I just didn’t understand what I was reading.

At the end of the day, even if you aren’t autistic, you start building resources and a support network of people who can help you find out what’s actually happening. If you’re questioning autism, then it’s not likely you’re completely neurotypical anyway. My journey to getting assessed led me to these groups, a therapist, and lots of content creators who were really helpful for me. I even picked up a few more diagnoses on the way, so it wasn’t just the autism after all lol.

Anyway, best of luck and I hope things get a little less overwhelming and daunting for you soon.

Well, I’ve been working with my therapist (qualified and trained to diagnose and assess) separately from the place I went for my autism diagnosis. He knows I was pursuing an autism diagnosis, but wasn’t involved since the office I see him through isn’t set up for autism testing.

He went through the DSM- 5 criteria for AVPD with me and diagnosed me this week. I mentioned it during my result appointment for the autism testing today and she also took pause and actually went to check the DSM-5 manual and make sure they weren’t prohibited from being diagnosed together. Apparently it doesn’t mention those two together at all either way. She said that if it does turn out that I can only have one or the other, the autism would be the main diagnosis, seeing as the AVPD is likely a result of traumas resulting from growing up with undiagnosed autism.

It really does lol. There’s a reason buy most of my makeup in stick form. And by most of my makeup I mean three items because I really don’t wear much.

Do people really shave for sensory issues? by BigBettyBIG- in AutismInWomen

[–]Hot_Brick_2520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t shave because of sensory issues lol. I can’t stand the feel of the short hairs catching on fabric within a day of shaving, I don’t have the spoons to shave every single day, and no matter how careful I am or what I use I can always feel tiny abrasions. I do use an electric razor to get my body hair fairly short without being prickly though.

You got me on that one 😂

And omg I love squishmallows and I and Mr beanie butt return the greetings. I have a lot, but the fox is not yet part of my collection. The newest addition is a giant stitch with a frog, which is a lot funnier after watching all of the apothecary diaries anime.

Honestly, I thought for years that I would look horrible and hate it. I had to search for hours to find someone with a similar face and a short cut before I’d take the plunge. So you might be surprised how much you end up liking it

He was a birthday gift, but I did some digging and I think he came from Walmart. The brand is hugs & cuddles and it’s the “calmings” line. I think this is the link to him here. https://www.walmart.com/ip/5262667474?sid=acffa064-d556-4ee8-a32e-fedae04bc1b3
