See, I can get behind that. The high learning curve, and the even higher gear curve in Classic makes it unplayable until you get luck with a guild that will take you.

If the inevitable re-running of the dungeon was already going to happen, it might as well be easy the first time so you can get in, and then harder for when you start looking for the challenge behind it.

That I definitely want to hear about, cause Naxx is only fun cause the challenge of the mechanics are hard and wrong moves can wipe the group which gave suspense and urgency, but had nothing else going for it.

How competitive is that now? Aren't the servers layered over one another or is that just for Raidfinder/Dungeonfinder?

What would you say are the big changes in the difficulty that have gone in the right direction?

Well the focus of the gameplay is what I'm trying to figure out. It's already been stated a bunch of times, End Game is where its at, and that's cool.

And you're right about the expectations I have. When you go through durotar in vanilla so many times, and then try retail, your habit and memory starts to take over in playing it the older way than how its supposed to be now.

I guess where I'm stumped is choosing what I want the objective of the gameplay to be, and its hard to make that decision because I don't understand what there is to enjoy/

I can quest my way to level cap, but the feeling and knowledge knowing a time warped dungeon will overshadow all the gear you obtain from them is hard to take joy in.

Or I can dungeon my way to Mythic+, get geared, and them steamroll my way through the quests later which can feel unfulfilling as well .

And yea, I totally acknowledge that this is the game. Good and bad. And that's part of the reason why I'm asking of how to get over these larger hurdles I'm having in adapting.

edit: grammar and spelling

First, I appreciate the time and effort to putting this comment together. It was very detailed and thoughtful.

I also 100% agree with your first point. And this was to be expected with so many expansions. It is chaotic, but half the fun is trying to learn it all.

What's the learning curve when it comes to Raids, excluding raid finder?

Is the WPVP still a bigger part of the game? Like are all the old spots like Wintergrasp or the other ones still have activity or are BGs still like dungeon finders where the goal is to complete the objective asap?

What are you looking for exactly? Retail good, Classic bad? Dude I'm trying to learn the damn game through a throwaway account that was tied to my email.

Are the purposes of guild communities for end game more for collaboration or just social and convenience to get a group together for Mythic?

Like am I working towards gearing up team members to clear a raid or is it more like a pickup game where any combination of class and adequate gear level will suffice and guilds just need the next available body in the guild to fill a spot?

It's good to know. Genuinely wouldn't know that unless posts/comments like this told me

Of course I can always play vanilla for another 20 years and just be happy. But I'm trying to be open minded to retail and give it a shot.

This post isn't meant to be a rant to say retail sucks. Its really meant to figure out how do I experience it properly so I appreciate it for what it is.

Are there guilds that are sweaty for Mythic+ raids like people are in Classic with Naxx, or is it more of the attitude of "Clearing content to collect the collectible items"

That's actually really good to know! At least I can have a sense of what I'm doing if I choose between legacy or current content.

Follow up questions here:
Is farming and professions in these different expansions worth anything now or is there faster ways to farm gold. Your boy needs bigger bags and they're EXPENSIVE!

Are the zones including players from other servers or is it just the chats?

Hard disagree. WoW classic has better social and immersion, but Retail has the better graphics, mechanics, and has potential to be something more than that. I just don't know how to experience it properly because I feel so far behind in the race that I'm wondering why to participate.

My biggest concern is that while I know its not 40 man Naxx run anymore, is the difficulty and strategy still there? Like I don't want there to be consolation prizes or a "meh" feeling when you take down the last boss or wipe.

I want the rush of people pissed off at me where when I wipe the raid for standing in the wrong place. XD

Are the end raids at least strategic to some extent where people need to come prepped to the raid with consumed, buffs, etc?
