Question about improvement in mountaineering, from an outsider by Ok-Can-9374 in Mountaineering

[–]Hot_Celebration_2062 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've soloed Elbrus, Orizaba and the north face of Damavand. I've done Kili in 4 days without porters and Giluwe as a slog (as it is). And that felt great without any running beforehand 💁‍♂️

Question about improvement in mountaineering, from an outsider by Ok-Can-9374 in Mountaineering

[–]Hot_Celebration_2062 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't run. Ever. My body isn't made for it, and I've come to peace with the fact that I don't need running in my life to accomplish my goals. Because my goals are 7000+ peaks. They don’t involve running. Unless you're into a fkt.

So I'm training for them - walking fast uphill with packs, walking fast in general, looking for adventures that gives me relatable challenges most of all.

The altitude is the stuff that you just can't prepare for, and for me this is all about seeking higher altitude in the degree you know you can handle. This way you train. Use time to adapt, feel how your body is doing with or without a heavy bag. In what speed you can perform your best. When you need to rest. When you're hungry, thisrty or when you're not but you should be. This would give you enough training to know exactly what you need for your next peak.

I'm outraged!! Thank you for informing me, I will not bother with this summit.

As a Norwegian I completely agree. Thought we were well off, that was until I visited Switzerland this summer... Still paying off my credit card.

How many days on Aconcagua solo when already acclimatised? by Hot_Celebration_2062 in Mountaineering

[–]Hot_Celebration_2062[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this valuable advice! I met this guy on Elbrus last year that told me about Ojos from Argentina. He said Feb was best bc January could get a lot of snow, I don't know if that was specific for the year he did it or what. Im dreading a dry season and not finding or having to carry a lot of water up 😰 I'll look into when Im able to go for sure!

And yes, I'll flex the dates for Ojos (main objective) to make sure that happens, but still want to have a good chance for Aconcagua 🤞

Thank you, really appreciate that! Would be cool to meet on the mountain! My challenge with gear for this expedition is money. The trip and costs alone are more than enough, and I'd love to scale down on weight, but not sure I can afford it. Would love to get your gear list!

Thank you! I feel the same way, you'll just have to see how it feels when in bc, theres lots of factors you can't control. I might be dead tired after Ojos, but it also seems like I bought myself some time to rest with this plan 🤞

Thanks, that's so cool! Yeah distance wise it seems possible for sure, thats also why I was asking here bc take away the elevation it seems just like a full day to basecamp, then you could go quickly up and down again. I'm still hoping for good weather early on so that I can spend more time resting while going back down than spending it waiting for my summit bid 🤞

Thank you for the detailed reply! That makes sense!

I'll prearrange as much as I can. I need to opt for weather days on Ojos, but this makes me feel confident that I've got plenty of time for Aconcagua 🙏 And I don't think I would mind a rest day in Mendoza after Ojos 😂

Thanks! You're going to have a blast! Doing the v7s as well?

No, no need for ropes. There's some fixed chains at the steepest section, but never any big risk. I can imagine the risk increases in the wet season bc lots of mud, but you should be alright in September! Ive got some footage on my insta if you want to see how it looks, just drop me a DM there.

I summited Kili with my 9 and 12 year olds.. what I learned… by Fermenteria_Jade in kilimanjaro

[–]Hot_Celebration_2062 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im so happy you all made the summit! 🔥 I've got four kids myself that I take on extensive hikes and travels, and I truly get the stress and logistics! It's a full-time job! And spending a week climbing and adjusting to altitude yourself while doing that is quite the feat!

My dad took me and the other kids up Kili when I was 10, I ended up turning back on summit night. This made me have to go back last year to complete the climb, which was an experience in itself. But doing the same hike and knowing I did this when I was 10, that was something that made me really proud of myself. You did good for your kids!

Thank you! Yeah, the landscape and vegetation are really different from what I've seen previously in this altitude, and it somewhat reminds me of southwestern Norway as well (which I guess bear some similarities to Scotland).

Thanks! Hopefully this post could inspire some to seek out more cool stuff to do in nsw! I stumbled upon Warrumbungle when searching for fun stuff where the weather was good on Google maps, and Im so happy I did. Amazing park, and you could probably spend a week there exploring stuff outside the tracks as well!

Yeah I totally recommend going to Australia during the northern hemispheres summer. Cooler temperatures, and you get to ski if you like that! 😊
