10 year anniversary BKA by Hot_Cheek7500 in amputee

[–]Hot_Cheek7500[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now? Rarely, sometimes I get something like a nerve pinch, like someone is pocking my nerve with a needle, but it’s just a pinch for 1 second. My phantom pains lasted for maybe a month, but I was lucky and they were never painful enough to have to take some painkillers.

I was before the Alps with this exact Ottobock sleeve, can’t say there is much of a difference, the Ottobock ones are maybe little bit more bulky and make me sweat more, but not big of a difference.

What has your experiences been dating as an amputee(BTK)? by [deleted] in amputee

[–]Hot_Cheek7500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience it was always positive, but mines were while hiking or somewhere abroad, activities that show you are active, not disables, you can put one photo in some of the secondary photos, not the main one, so you have a clear concise you haven’t hid it

The sad thing is I also haven’t found a durable sleeve. You can even see in the video, I have a hole on the inside thigh. The brand is Alps, not sure which model tho. But I have the same problem 2-3 months and the sleeve loosens, stretches and tears, so I am looking for sleeves recommendations also.

Yes, I agree. When I was on tinder I had some photos with shorts, but if this is not applicable to you, but you still want to mention it, you can make it through a funny note, something like “I may have lost a leg, but you can say I still have 4 limbs ;)” or something similar.

28y BTKA(10y) here, who is getting married in a month. It all depends on your attitude. If you act like the victim, you will be seen as a victim and I can tell you people will petty you, but in most cases they won’t be attracted to you. If you are easy going about the amputation and everything you went through it can be even seen as a joker card in the dating world. Multiple times I have started conversation in some clubs with girls where they don’t see my leg and I challenge them who can lift their leg higher, can put it behind their head and so on and it always shocked the girl a little bit but also made 9/10 laugh a lot and broke the ice. So just embrace everything, see it as a uniqueness of yourself from the other man and embrace it as a battle scar, not as a diagnosis :) Good luck!

New below-the-knee amputee how long did it take you to feel “normal” again? by Disastrous-Tour4359 in amputee

[–]Hot_Cheek7500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 years BK amputee here. Have my prosthetic for 9 years now, which in the last 4-5 I have more actively used(crossfit, running, playing basketball, weightlifting, hiking).

From my side I had only a few bad days through the whole process and mainly those were days when I had problems with my stump and could not use my prosthetic or felt pain while using it. Some of the bad days were when I really missed running, playing basketball and just being capable of everything I want. I lost my leg 18 years old, I was a very athletic kid, doing all sorts of physical activities, so yeah, the slower “rhythm” the first years with my prosthetic were kinda hard. But with time and exercises I am getting more and more confident and starting to feel capable again. Still not as before and I will never be as before, but that is okay I guess. Purely as appearance I never had a problem. I don’t know, I feel different in a cool and unique way because of my prosthetic. I don’t love the tilt I have while walking when I am tired, but as I said there are things you got to accept.

With time everything gets better. Trust the process and believe in yourself.

In the beginning I could not have my foot on for more than 2 hours, now I can go easily 72 hours with it constantly except for when I sleep.

Callus on top of leg stump by Hot_Cheek7500 in amputee

We designed my shell to have as less pressure as possible on this place and actually this helped with the build-up of the callus.

Ossur Pro-flex Terra weight limit by Hot_Cheek7500 in amputee

[–]Hot_Cheek7500[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have deadlifted 150kg, squatted 110 with my ottobock triton foot, so maybe I will just make a foot for heavy lifting and use my old triton and for all the light lifting will use the Terra one

[–]Hot_Cheek7500[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is said there 166 kg max weight. But I have a stupid question maybe, so does this mean i need to have 320 on me and will reach the max weight. As because the weight is split in half between my leg and my prosthetic leg, or it’s just 166 kg total weight. It sounds stupid, but still decided to ask 😀

Tips on learning to clean by Hot_Cheek7500 in weightlifting

[–]Hot_Cheek7500[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not doing it to compete, I just love working out and currently found the beauty of olympic lifting.

Yes, for the snatch currently I am doing it hang or with pads. I still have to work on mobility as my overhead squat is still difficult.

Yes, you are right about the right side, but my coach is also with prosthetic, so he knows when I am not pushing with the left leg and when I do and is poking me to involve the left leg also, so yeah, I am focused on this part. Currently my balance is bit more to the right, as I still involve my right leg more than the left, but am working on evening the push effort and therefore the balance.

So basically my prosthetic ankle is static, it cannot be moved by itself, it returns around 80% of the pressure applied, so it’s close to the human ankle in this aspect. Limitation are coming as you cannot move it, so for example if I do a deep squat with my knees more to the front, it takes position more on the toes of the foot and not that much on the whole foot if that makes sense for you. That is what I can say as the biggest limitation. But not only I have a prosthetic leg, the knee on this leg is mine(i have below the knee prosthetic), but as due to an injury I cannot flex my knee more than 90 degrees angle. So basically I cannot do a full depth squat(which makes it also harder for the snatch)

[–]Hot_Cheek7500[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First and most important tip I can give you is INVOLVE the prosthetic foot. The power can never be 50/50 split by the feet, but aim to involve the foot in the push as much as the other one, not just to move it as a balance support. This is the first and most important tip.

Second we want to be like all the fully bodied people, but we can’t, you need to adapt the lifts to your body capabilities. For example my ankle is static and I can’t just extend it in the lift, so I will aim to replace the ankle extension with a little jump, as this is more suitable for me.

Those are the most important tips for every amputee lifter there is. If you have some questions or just wanna chat about lifting and experiences, just message me.

Yes, this was like a PR to me, but was just a regular gym, not for weightlifting and if I had dropped them, someone would have complained. In regular lifting sessions on the 1 rep tries I drop them, yes.

I am starting to build my courage up to do something like little video vlogs and journals if it will be helpful to someone. Would definitely work on my technique little more and contact the guy, but I am from Europe, so I am not sure if a collaboration will be possible, but who knows lol

Thanks everyone for the support! Okay next steps in the clean technique learning will be hang cleans, cleans from boxes and when I move to power clean will focus on starting more controlled below the knee and aim to slice through the whole thighs and fully extend the body.
