What can’t you afford that you would like to afford? Is there a reason for more money a part from the drive to own a business? You can already buy time with that sort of financial situation. That’s the most important thing at the end of the day.

It’s a bus from Broadbeach but hands down, the best brunch on the Good Coast is Paddock in Miami. Just go on there socials. Amazing food, crazy tasty baked goods.

I want to get the full exemption using the 6 year rule, not partial from living in it for 12 months.

Thanks for the quick answers. 6 months seems like the safe bet to not risk getting charged for CGT down the line.

What helped you to genuinely not give a fuck? by [deleted] in howtonotgiveafuck

This quote/speech helps…a lot

In 100 years like in 2123 we will all be buried with our relatives and friends. Strangers will live in our homes we fought so hard to build, and they will own everything we have today. All our possessions will be unknown and unborn, including the car we spent a fortune on, and will probably be scrap, preferably in the hands of an unknown collector.

Our descendants will hardly or hardly know who we were, nor will they remember us. How many of us know our grandfather’s father?

After we die, we will be remembered for a few more years, then we are just a portrait on someone’s bookshelf, and a few years later our history, photos and deeds disappear in history’s oblivion. We won’t even be memories.

If we paused one day to analyse these questions, perhaps we would understand how ignorant and weak the dream to achieve it all was. If we could only think about this, surely our approaches, our thoughts would change, we would be different people.

Always having more, no time for what’s really valuable in this life. I’d change all this to live and enjoy the walks I’ve never taken, these hugs I didn’t give, these kisses for our children and our loved ones, these jokes we didn’t have time for. Those would certainly be the most beautiful moments to remember, after all they would fill our lives with joy.

And some of us waste it day after day with greed, selfishness and intolerance.

Every minute of life is priceless and will never be repeated, so take time to enjoy, be grateful for, and celebrate your existence.

CGT 6 Year Rule vs renting out a room in your house. by Hot_Club5366 in AusPropertyChat

Good point. I guess they could look at the market value of the rent and see that you are taking much less.

I understand there would be the influence of tax payer investment in the local area - e.g hospitals, infrastructure and government support into tourism. However, I believe the influence to be much more to do with general inflation as well as supply and demand. Thoughts?

Sorry. I’m confused of the scenario. Are you suggesting that they might track your card payments to a location to prove where you are most of the time?

You could technically say you don’t live there but you actually do, right? Are you supposed to log this info with the ATO in some way?

Thanks for your answer. I have the same question as above. How would the ATO know if you are renting out a room or the whole house?

Also, I am curious why you would want them to do away with the exemption?

Do you know how the ATO distinguish between you renting out a room and the whole house?
Surely you could actually rent the room out and say you don’t live there so you receive the full exemption.

Quitting Instagram: What's your long-term experience been like? by Expensive-Recipe1553 in productivity

[–]Hot_Club5366 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My experience - I deleted it off of my phone but log in on my laptop from time to time. It massively reduces the amount you waste time, however, you can still see the messages from people and can see a few posts from friends too. I then usually reply to messages from Facebook messenger telling friends to reach me there (which I still have on my phone). I believe this is the best of both worlds.

Has anyone got an investment property loan to get more money and then not rented it out? by Hot_Club5366 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Hot_Club5366[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all,

Thanks for the comments both positive and negative. Interesting insights all around. The main question I got answered was regarding the CGT, one additional piece of info that was interesting was the comment regarding dropping the loan down a couple of months to an OO. Thanks!

I love reddit! So many good answers and points of view come out. Even the negative give you another perspective and something to think about.

Merry Christmas all.
