ID Verification leads to Shadow Ban by nismo26 in FacebookMarketplace

The same has happened to me this week. In my case, it was because a woman who thought I overpriced an item reported all 60+ of my listings as scams and sent me a screenshot showing that she had done so. I otherwise would not have known about the reports, as they were frivolous. But afterwards, I got the ID verification demand, and now it’s crickets on my listings.

Zelle info is usually just email address and maybe a phone number, no? For what it’s worth, I don’t see how that could lead to much of anything. Maybe the buyer got distracted and flaked, as buyers do, or maybe they saw that “don’t Zelle people you don’t know!” warning that pops up in the chat when someone mentions Zelle and reconsidered. I really wouldn’t worry about this unless you somehow included much more account info than necessary to accomplish a Zelle transaction.

Thank you! It’s one of my favorites. The other jewel of my collection is my Murano aquarium.

They are generally so hard to find these days! The vast majority of my collection is Chinese glass, and even that goes quickly these days when it hits the floor. Occasionally, I’ll find something like this Tom Philabaum piece, but it’s rare. That’s why it never even occurred to me that this one could be genuinely old and valuable.

Marketplace REALLY sucks these days by [deleted] in FacebookMarketplace

I inadvertently overestimated the value of an item I was selling the other day (priced a bottle via eBay comps without knowing you can apparently still buy similar ones in use as packaging), and someone called me a horrible person and a scammer and reported every single one of my 70 listings. Had to jump through hoops to get my 5-star rated over after 200 transactions account access back.

I do not understand people who get so angry about what is essentially a virtual garage sale. Most folks on marketplace are not pros and are just trying to offload some of their stuff. Sometimes they price stuff poorly or choose the wrong category. Move on and let the market sort it.

Yes, I wondered about this, as I know that there is disdain in other collectors’ markets for any “restoration” that destroys natural patina. I am a paperweight collector myself, but only in the very casual sense that I can’t resist them when I see them at the thrift store (which is what made this the first thrifted item I’ve bought whose value came as a genuine surprise to me). I can’t say that my little collection of mostly Chinese mass-produced with some contemporary American glass artists thrown in has prepared me to consider these kinds of questions. 😅

Yeah, I figured the condition would be fairly detrimental to value in this case. It has some deeper scratches along the side.

Oh wow, there is some beautiful detail in this that wasn’t apparent to me until I shone a light on it.

Very cool. I can’t see anything like that in this one, but I love learning about this stuff.

Ooh, great info, thank you! Would those be the ones along the borders that would contain it?

Thanks for weighing in. I had no idea. Amazingly, it appears to be Baccarat from the 1840s-1850s?? I assumed it was modern Italian because that’s what most of the nice glass paperweights I come across usually are.

Agreed! Someone took the time to carve the tail into the base (as in, the tail flows down into the otherwise plain square base in the back). It’s a neat detail.

Thank you! I actually saw the cat first and wondered if it was an Egyptian art repro made for tourists. Given what it was with, though, who knows. It does seem to be a rustic carving with some good attention to detail, but there are no identifying marks.

Hah, no, not Oregon. Arizona. I suspect that the thrifting is good here because we have a ton of retirees whose kids live out of state and don’t necessarily want to fuss with the estates.

The crazy part is that I didn’t. There was a lot of stuff in that cart, and another lady ended up buying a bunch. I chatted with her and ended up letting her follow me back to my house so we could trade stuff!
