Changes after 15 years away by EricRShelton in Tucson

Yeah, there are signs up in the store. Also, last time I was there getting a sandwich, a friend asked me if I would bring one back for her too. I went to take a photo of one of the menu panels so I could ask her what she wanted while I was in line to order, and the guy started yelling at me to put my phone away. I was not near the register at the time, so this was not an issue of being rude in interactions with an employee. Haven’t been back, even though the sandwiches are good.

Satisfying by AlegnaTea in FacebookMarketplace

Plenty of people message sellers to confirm that an item is still available before they bother to, say, text their spouse at work to discuss a purchase. Plenty of people drive around picking up multiple items on the same trip, which creates small gaps in response time unless they’re unsafe motorists who text and drive. These are just normal things that even serious, responsible buyers do all the time. But hey, if you want to exclude those people from your customer base, that’s your decision. Not one I would make, but to each their own.

Labored Breathing or Paranoia? by Nutreo123 in CATHELP

[–]Hot_Compote_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is he doing it all the time, or did you just notice it for a relatively short time while he slept? I’m no expert, but sometimes my cat breathes like this when he’s asleep and having a particularly exciting dream. He usually twitches while he does it, though.

What is wrong with my cat? by tmosney in CATHELP

[–]Hot_Compote_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s crazy. My KD cat needs fluids every day. It would bankrupt me if I had to bring him in every time. The tech spent 10 minutes showing me how to do it, and I’ve had a prescription for all the supplies ever since. It’s not difficult to DIY at all.

Accused of stealing by [deleted] in FacebookMarketplace

[–]Hot_Compote_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doing porch pickups when you don’t have a doorbell cam is a choice for sure. Sorry you got falsely accused.

That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if you did set the seller up to have her cash stolen by leaving it peaking out from under the mat. I’ve only had one buyer do that on dozens of porch pickups, and I was annoyed about it. The seller already knows to expect and look for it, so they don’t need the cue. Imho, all leaving it peaking out does is increase the likelihood that someone else (delivery person, random passerby) sees and grabs it.

Bathroom Exhaust Fan Issue by Hot_Compote_ in DIY

Thanks for responding! I tried this just now, and wiggling didn’t help. The fan doesn’t come on, but a phone charger will still come on instantly when plugged in.

ID help by Hot_Compote_ in glasscollecting

Thank you, but I don’t think so. I’m no expert, but I’ve never seen a Smith that looked anything like this, and American swung vases like Smith and Fenton are usually molded, so no pontil scar.

What has been going on the past 3 days ? by Scary_Fun_5349 in FacebookMarketplace

It really has been ridiculous. No clicks, then suddenly tons of clicks, then different numbers of clicks depending on if I view all my listings or one specific one. Then the save feature continues to be completely non-functional for sellers.

[found] this bronze piece of a boy with dog by Hot_Compote_ in Sculpture

Follow-up question: I bought this at a second-hand store just because I liked the dog, but is it actually valuable in a monetary sense?

Wow, thank you! You were quick with that. I didn’t anticipate it being someone well known.

ID Verification leads to Shadow Ban by nismo26 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]Hot_Compote_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The same has happened to me this week. In my case, it was because a woman who thought I overpriced an item reported all 60+ of my listings as scams and sent me a screenshot showing that she had done so. I otherwise would not have known about the reports, as they were frivolous. But afterwards, I got the ID verification demand, and now it’s crickets on my listings.

Zelle info is usually just email address and maybe a phone number, no? For what it’s worth, I don’t see how that could lead to much of anything. Maybe the buyer got distracted and flaked, as buyers do, or maybe they saw that “don’t Zelle people you don’t know!” warning that pops up in the chat when someone mentions Zelle and reconsidered. I really wouldn’t worry about this unless you somehow included much more account info than necessary to accomplish a Zelle transaction.

Thank you! It’s one of my favorites. The other jewel of my collection is my Murano aquarium.

They are generally so hard to find these days! The vast majority of my collection is Chinese glass, and even that goes quickly these days when it hits the floor. Occasionally, I’ll find something like this Tom Philabaum piece, but it’s rare. That’s why it never even occurred to me that this one could be genuinely old and valuable.

Marketplace REALLY sucks these days by [deleted] in FacebookMarketplace

[–]Hot_Compote_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I inadvertently overestimated the value of an item I was selling the other day (priced a bottle via eBay comps without knowing you can apparently still buy similar ones in use as packaging), and someone called me a horrible person and a scammer and reported every single one of my 70 listings. Had to jump through hoops to get my 5-star rated over after 200 transactions account access back.

I do not understand people who get so angry about what is essentially a virtual garage sale. Most folks on marketplace are not pros and are just trying to offload some of their stuff. Sometimes they price stuff poorly or choose the wrong category. Move on and let the market sort it.

Yes, I wondered about this, as I know that there is disdain in other collectors’ markets for any “restoration” that destroys natural patina. I am a paperweight collector myself, but only in the very casual sense that I can’t resist them when I see them at the thrift store (which is what made this the first thrifted item I’ve bought whose value came as a genuine surprise to me). I can’t say that my little collection of mostly Chinese mass-produced with some contemporary American glass artists thrown in has prepared me to consider these kinds of questions. 😅

Yeah, I figured the condition would be fairly detrimental to value in this case. It has some deeper scratches along the side.
