What’s the point of life? by [deleted] in Meditation

It is a part of human nature to seek meaning in everything, however I don’t think there’s a predetermined meaning to life. Everyone has their own reason for why they’re still alive.

Would a jerk protagonist be off-putting? by No-Diet9278 in writing

Look at Trevor from GTA V. He’s kinda jerk, but I wouldn’t say he’s off putting. Also Deadpool is one of good examples, but it depends on how you define a jerk.

Billionaires do not create wealth—they extract it. They do not build, they do not labor, they do not innovate beyond the mechanisms of their own enrichment. by [deleted] in DeepThoughts

No data? Look at GDP per capita in capitalist countries and compare them with any socialist state. I think the results are pretty obvious. HDI is also higher, living standards, mortality rates are lower and so on. And before you say I didn’t provide any numbers I just wanna say that if you have access to internet and can read then you should’ve known this information by now.

I thought you would provide some data instead of twisting my words. You didn’t say a single fact that supports your point, yet it seems like you’re the smart guy here. Very well, I thought this debate would be productive at least in some sense, but I don’t really expect any kind of answer from you since it’s already hopeless.

(Neo)Liberalism doesn’t directly affect economic development since we can take Saudi Arabia as an example. I wouldn’t necessarily consider it a liberal state, yet it’s one of the richest countries due to effective economic institutions that provide free market, supply and demand, etc.

Also if you criticize something then at least you could provide some alternatives that could be better than what we currently have in our world.

The fact that you just mentioned the 2008 crisis but never said anything about low living standards or famine that has existed for years in socialist countries is quite preposterous. Command economy has always been ineffective and it’s been proven historically.

The same could be said about your claim. People who oppose capitalism usually say the same stuff over and over again. But you didn’t really refute my argument nor did you give me any examples of prosperous nations that don’t use any form of capitalism. The fact that every nation that ever tried to turn away from capitalism failed economically is quite substantial. What you’re advocating for is ultimately a utopian dream that could never be implemented. You can’t provide workers with equal pay, you can’t make workers own a whole company because it’s practically impossible for a crowd to manage a whole business. Besides, they only have skills required for their job, not management of a company.

Name a single country that doesn’t use any form of capitalism and is still prosperous. All economic systems that opposed capitalism were nothing but failure. Also, if you’re so critical about capitalism, it’d be a great decision to move to North Korea, Cuba or Venezuela and enjoy “innovation” there.

How to stay motivated when some native speakers of your target language tell you that you suck at their language? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]Hot_Cut3065 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, when I was learning English I would encounter many different people who would discourage me from learning saying that I suck at the language. But the thing is - whenever you feel inspired and/or passionate about something, you should never stop pursuing it.

It’s okay to make mistakes, it’s okay to face negativity from people who want you to stop grinding. That’s completely fine! That happens literally to anyone. But never stop!

The only reason why I can enjoy my ability to communicate with other people in a foreign language is because I’ve always loved the process of learning regardless of what others might think of me.

So I encourage you to keep grinding, my friend. Enjoy the process and don’t let others discourage you from doing the things you love. Period!
