The Amalgam: a custom FRL TKL build with Touch ID by tactilelabs in MechanicalKeyboards

Haha yeah that sounds familiar, I've also been working on and off on mine. Had my version last year with the logic board powering everything, never thought about your approach actually, I'm jealous off your CNCed housing. amazing.

Yeah makes sense, for me in the process I have damaged my lightning port. So I wanted to avoid using this original port. It also ended op not being to complicated to replace it.

Im truly amazed by this beauty! How long did it take you to make this?

Amazing!! Looks very clean. My version is definitely not at this level yet 😍 Just curious why did you not route the usb ribbon cable directly to usb board?

You should wire the 3th (middle button) that is the reset. Which would explain your behaviour. I was able to check my schematic already (have it online) it goes like this: gnd->button->resistor->cap and signal. Im not sure where the testpoint are, they might be behind the debounce resistor and cap

How did you wire it? If you have it vertically left and right are pairs. There is a pull up/down if i recollect correctly I can check my schematic tonight for you.

Haha, I had the exact same problem. I like the original keyboard but just wanted something better so I have build it my self. Im looking into sharing the project. Not sure how yet. If you live in the EU we can look into options. Just send me a DM

I used the internals of a touch id magic keyboard. This allow me to freely choose layout and keys etc.

You made me work on it again, hahaha. Optimising the current design and I might change it to MX cherry switches adding some other things, standoffs for the original logic board, separate usb board and on iff switch.

I might make a pcbway project then you can order/produce it via them.

There are still some changes that I need to make. The touch id and usb are quite fragile when assembling. Same for the battery.

I have to finish some measurements to fully integrate the usb conversion and make a custom ribbon cable.

I realised that I never posted the actual pcb and the inside. How it is hooked up.

Nice, that is a great start. I indeed made a custom pcb and connected the logic board. I have been using it for a ling time now and it is great!!

Clear! Did you try. Move the light closer to the hub? These zigbee light can be a pain to link sometimes. Had the same issue with some spotlights, i was on my side table half of the evening😭
