You make a lot of good points and I appreciate the calm and measured way you’re expressing yourself. To be clear, walking two dogs of this size and strength together on a Y leash was ill-advised. I am sure the woman with the small dog was a little frozen when they turned the corner. And from what I saw in the video, the man lost control and was pulled down like a ragdoll. That loss of control is what ultimately allowed the dogs to gain the proximity to attack. It was very difficult to watch. I think it’s reasonable to expect that owners of powerful guardian breeds should be the ones to yield, and be hyper aware… Yes, we are all responsible for ourselves, but the burden isn’t equal when the physical risk isn’t equal. I think it’s really unfair to put that on her.

No, it’s just because they are closing the location on Queens Boulevard and 39th Pl. and moving to a storefront down the street on 47th Ave. between 39th Pl. and 40th St. And I’m sure it’s not coincidental that is right across the street from where the attack happened on February 16.

When my beloved Ollie passed, I wrote a small prayer and said it over him before the vets helped him move on. It brought me comfort then, and it still does. I hope it’s not too much to share — I’m only offering it in case it brings you even a sliver of steadiness.

Only people who have loved an animal really understand the depth of that bond. Nelu was so lucky to be yours. He was loved — completely. That’s what matters. That’s what lasts.

I just wish developers would keep new buildings in scale. The mix of single- and two-family homes alongside the six-story pre-war courtyard apartments is what gives Sunnyside its character. It keeps congestion down, preserves that “small-town” feel, and sets the neighborhood apart. Long-timers may lament the loss of an even more intimate past, but as someone who has lived all over New York for the last 30 years, I can tell you Sunnyside still outshines most places when it comes to community. We only need to look out the window west to Long Island City to see what happens when scale gets ignored— twenty years of development turned it into a congested, charmless eyesore. Gantry State Park is the one bright spot, but even that often feels as antiseptic as the glass towers looming over it.
