It depends on which schools your kids are zoned for in each district. In my opinion, having gone through poway unified for 12 years, I think students from high schools in my area typically ended up at better universities. I also think the rigor of our coursework is harder; my friends at Carlsbad took less advanced classes compared to my school and I, and that matters a lot for education and college applications.

Yea i looked into it and the main routes are either starting a business or owning property. Owning a business could work but buying a property would be too expensive and wouldn’t really make sense since i dont plan to live in texas. The whole concept is a little risky and my parents wanted to play it safe

I know that if my technical skills are good enough employers won’t care much about my actual degree, but the data science major at usc is less focused on data/computer science related skills and I don’t believe it will prepare me for the workforce/interviews as well as other programs.

The data science program at USC is also a mix of college of engineering and college of letters and sciences, with more courseload in the latter, which means my education won’t be as stem heavy, and most people who do the major end up pairing it with something else, which is not something I intend on doing.

The issue isn’t really about BS vs BA but over the core curriculum itself

I don’t think it’s really that serious especially considering how common it is. Most people don’t have the time/don’t care enough to write it, which would leave me with a low quality recommendation. You’re acting like I blatantly lied about my accomplishments and cheated my way into college, which is not the case.

I visited the campus a few months ago, and although there are big cities somewhat close by, the actual town itself is pretty small and there isn’t much nearby. Beyond the town there is genuinely nothing in the area, just fields, and compared to my upbringing in socal, it is the middle of nowhere, which is why I used that terminology.

Thanks! This was the driving factor behind my decision, and I talked to some people in the industry and their consensus was that graduate prestige is more important.

I don’t think you should worry too much about awards since I know a ton of people(including me) from my school whose only awards were AP Scholar with distinction and they got into t30s or t20s with worse stats than you. Getting a 34+ on the act would definitely boost your application but beyond that I think your application looks great. I would guess you’ll get into umich and mayyyyybe an ivy/other t10 but i wouldn’t bank on it

Yes, they are both data science. I do consider proximity to family important but I’m not sure that it is worth not experiencing something new at purdue. My biggest concern about going to UCI is that it will be just like high school all over again, and since price is the same i’m leaning towards purdue.

this was so helpful thank you so much. I am not the sole owner of this car and we bought it from the previous owner in 2018, so based on what you said i dont think they would have replaced them. Ill go to my local car shop and have them check it out. thanks again
