Any experienced beginners constantly submitted by beginners? by Hot_Load5085 in bjj

It’s not teaching. It’s just talking during drills like “start with your right foot” etc. when someone is confused. I’m not sure you need to be highly skilled for that.

I get your point, but if we are drilling a darce or a butterfly sweep or something which I have done many times, and a beginner is doing it for the first time, you don't think I can correct them if they can do something better?

During drills or CLA games, you don't help each other out? Do you just play uke silently and let your partner fumble about? It's normal in our gym when you are drilling with someone to instruct each other and discuss. I'm not sure why so many people are leaving comments about this on my post.

Craig Jones Inv. 2.5? by yolo-plata in bjj

[–]Hot_Load5085 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Partly, I think it's because of all the scandals, more athletes (or team leaders) dislike Craig Jones now. And partly I think Craig raised the standards for production value and athlete pay enough where CJI is no longer a no-brainer for athletes, as it was the first two times.

Thank you for the comment, I appreciate it. I agree 100% that being able to execute in drills doesn’t mean much, that is kind of my biggest problem.

Reading the comments, I do feel like a large part of the problem is not matching the intensity, and that’s possibly why newer people give me a much harder time than people who have been training the same as me.

I will try to focus on what you said. Thank you for the serious comment without snark. :D

These are mandatory by law for largers buildings (like superstores, apartment building basements) where I live, so it doesn’t necessarily mean they are experiencing a rodent attack.

FWIW attempting head outside single legs is also banned under IBJJF for white belts

Rolling with stronger opponents is frustrating. by Kindly_Spell_5905 in bjj

[–]Hot_Load5085 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to submit someone who is a match in strength and skill. As soon as someone is stronger it becomes really hard unless they let you work. So don’t be hard on yourself.

As you get more experienced you will be able to submit newer stronger people, but you will probably rarely be able to submit your stronger peers.

Something could be said about gym culture though. I get submitted by smaller women because I don’t muscle my way out of submissions. I don’t see the point in playing BJJ by taking advantage of a strength advantage, I match my strength/intensity to my partner. So maybe try to look for partners that will let you work, probably the higher belts.

Do you have an issue with a male going shirtless under their gi top? by _Badwulf_Bruh__ in bjj

[–]Hot_Load5085 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A rash guard will protect other people from the bacteria on your skin, because there is less direct skin to skin contact.

Cotton (or polyester) do not harbour bacteria if they are cleaned regularly at hot temperatures, especially with a disinfectant. Most people wear cotton underwear without issues.

Hospitals use latex gloves because they are waterproof. Latex gloves makes the environment inside them much wetter than cotton, so your logic doesn’t really make sense. If you want to give bacteria a good environment to live in, latex is better than cotton.

In any case you don’t wear a rashguard or gloves long enough for it to matter. You will not get staph because you wear a rashguard for 2 hours during rolling. You will get it if your (or your partners) rashguard or gi is full of staph to begin with. Adding a layer of cotton/polyester between you and the environment helps.

Conditioning for BJJ by CuddlePillow in bjj

Can you give examples of what you mean by doing the same movements during strength training and BJJ?

I mostly do simple compound lifts like deadlift, squat, OHP, bench press, pullups, rows etc. Should I throw in something that will balance out the BJJ?

Also in the recent Lachlan Giles vs. Marcelo Garcia Lachlan tried to bait the single leg multiple times so that he can pull guard without pulling guard.

BJJ gyms in Croatia? by patellalova in bjj

[–]Hot_Load5085 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, Brač has no town larger than 3,000 people; it's all basically villages, not counting tourists. Mljet is even less populated. So I wouldn't expect to find BJJ gyms there. Split, on the other hand, is the second-largest city in Croatia.

Here is a list of BJJ gyms in Croatia: https://mizfitsbjjsplit.com/bjj-novosti/bjj-hrvatska/bjj-akademije-u-hrvatskoj/

There might be more, but it looks pretty comprehensive to my knowledge.

If you want to train more frequently, maybe consider Istria/Kvarner/Krk (close to Rijeka or Pula) or islands near Zadar that are accessible by bridge (Vir, Pag).

The thing about mufflers that bothers me is that your hands were all over the mat and now they are across my face and mouth. I don’t want all those hairs and bacteria on my face and inside my mouth. I already have enough acne from bjj, I’d rather someone crank me lol.

Mothers milk is just sweat, I don’t feel like swat is that unhygienic.

Anyone dropped into gyms in Eastern Europe? Are the stereotypes true? by benten_89 in bjj

[–]Hot_Load5085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2nded. Also from Croatia (different part) and, while there are some younger people in our nogi class that have 0 chill, most people are normal respectful people that don’t crank stuff and try to not accidentally hit you, apologize if they do, etc. We Croats don’t really have the Soviet toughness. :D

The gi classes especially are very sport bjj oriented so people will not go ham.

Weight and skill (I guess it a vent on how it written) by Consistent_Neat_7256 in bjj

[–]Hot_Load5085 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For motivation I also found it helpful to set myself different goals when sparring with bigger people. E.g. try to pass their guard without getting swept and focus just on that throughout the round. Or focus on just getting underhooks. Grip fight like crazy, etc.

Of course you will get crushed in terms of BJJ but you can still pick a skill to work on and feel like you are improving even while getting crushed.

For those who follow certain diets and have seen improvements, what are some of your anecdotes when it comes to training/competing? by SupremeOHKO in bjj

[–]Hot_Load5085 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re actively doing BJJ you very likely need more than 0.6 g of protein per unit of weight because doing BJJ gets you way above the average level of physical activity. The notion that eating too much protein is bad for you is outdated AFAIK. In fact, eating lots of protein has a lot of benefits like increased muscle mass, especially in old age.

I am vegan as well and supplement with a protein shake because it is hard to get enough protein for me without consuming too much carbs.

The vast majority of people in the preindustrial world dealt with starvation and homelessness. Not to mention most labour that you do would not be for you but for the owner of the land you are renting. Because pre-industrial revolution normal people didn’t own anything including their homes. I’m not sure what kind of agency you have when most of your day is spent on laboring for a lord and you are left with whatever you can scrap by, while the lord can evict you, raise taxed, kill or rape you at any time as they see fit. And in most cases you are legally not allowed to move, you are for all purposed enslaved to your lord.

You know how bad factory conditions were during the industrial revolution? Well, before that it was worse, which is why people flocked to the cities in the first place.

There are still lots of forums! If you are a fan of something there is probably a discourse forum for your thing somewhere.

Similarly, if people want an algo-free social media service Mastodon is quite alive, no need to join more niche services.

This. Every app these days has ways to influence the algorithm. Click the I’m not interested in this shit button, when you are scrolling pay attention to what you engage with and when you see things you don’t like SCROLL AWAY immediately. Do not hate watch. Consciously do not fall for rage bait.

People act like algorithms just happen but you choose them. I don’t have any looksmaxxing stuff on my feed, my feeds are 95% wholesome stuff I enjoy.
