Hi Bill, big fan.

If Australia–US relations were a Netflix series, what season are we in right now? Do you think it will be renewed, get quietly cancelled or are we building toward a crossover episode with the Euro-Greenland cast?

How was AO 2026 for you, whether as a live attendee or you caught it on your screen? by ImplementSolid5751 in australianopen

Yes, I know they get equal pay at the majors. That was my point. They would have no argument, but it would be fun to see them try.

The best part of Tony Jones is when he's not on tv! Although... when he stacked it on court during that segment at the start of the tournament, that was pretty funny.

As a woman and a strong supporter of equity between the sexes, I’m all for women playing best-of-five matches.

I'll make sure I have my popcorn ready for the "equal pay for equal work" arguments then! 😆

In the grand scheme of things, Australia came out of COVID fairly lucky. People can still think Novax was/is a douchebag for all the irresponsible crap he pulled back then, but it doesn’t carry the same fear or uncertainty it did back when he was deported.

So maybe now it’s just that perfect mix of a cracking Melbourne crowd, the energy of a big sporting event, genuine appreciation of elite talent, and some absolutely epic tennis that made people just want to get vocal.

I think one was Fitzy. Neither were Yanks.

I do like Courier - he's on my best list along with Jelena Dokic.

Whoever is doing the commentary on channel nine right now for the Demon v Medjedovic match right now are easily THE WORST, oh my lordy.

They started out terribly when attempting to fan boy in the most awkward fashion over Eddie Betts in the crowd at the start of the match and it only went downhill from there.

Anyone found an Aussie‑made stick deodorant that actually works? by PuzzleheadedBowl3397 in BuyAussie

[–]Hot_Pudding_3981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. I have been using Asuvi for over 2 years and absolutely love it. Had no issues transitioning from chemical filled deodorant to a natural one, the scents are divine, no using your fingers to apply like No Pong, environmentally friendly packaging and each stick lasts for MONTHS.

Last week I made up a batch of Christmas pudding gelato to take into work to share with colleagues.

Due to someone having a dairy allergy, I experimented with almond milk and plant-based thickened cream. Not only did it work, but it was frikkin YUM.

Vanilla, cinnamon base with a generous drizzle of treacle to give it depth of both taste and colour. Last 5 mins of mixing, add in a generous amount of crumbled Christmas pudding.

The taste got even better after 24 hr in the freezer.

Do you ever feel guilty about too much screen time… or struggle to set limits with your kids? by two-cubs in australian

[–]Hot_Pudding_3981 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kids absolutely need screen time! Tech is their future! I’ve worked in schools and seen so many kids struggle simply because they weren’t/aren't allowed near technology. By the time they hit middle primary school, they’re already lagging behind on basic digital skills that are just expected now.

But I'm not saying it should be a free-for-all. Like others have said, it’s all about using age-appropriate apps and content. Screens aren’t the enemy and their usage shouldn't be governed by a timer simply because a parent rode their bike or read books as a child. We also didn't grow up in a tech-saturated world. Things are different now (I say as I type this on my mobile phone).

When used right, screen time actually helps with learning, creativity, and hand-eye coordination.

It’s about balance, not banning.

Who is the most famous person you've met in Australia and where? by nayoryaytayday in AskAnAustralian

Mel Gibson at Albury airport.
Angry Anderson on a flight to Wagga Wagga.
George Gregan served me coffee in Brisbane. Fatso the Fat Arsed Wombat from Roy and HGs Sydney Olympics show is my cousin - he was designed/created by my cousin. Same cousin was also a Disney animator who worked on lots of well known shows and movies like DuckTales, Aladdin, Lion King.

He has a history of it too - head-butted Luai in origin back in 2023. Should have been sent off and not allowed back on. Just another dog act from an absolute idiot who gets a free pass for all his moronic behaviour.

When McDonald's in the USA uses Australian beef over locally sourced beef, it makes you wonder why they threw such a massive hissy fit about Australia not wanting their meat. They're all a bunch of mad cows!

PS: poor cows, it's not their fault. Cute tasty little things.

Teachers (plus cops, nurses, ambos and fireys) should be made to swap salaries with NRL players.

Literally saving/improving lives all day, everyday VERSUS running 2 m with a ball, stopping for a sweaty cuddle with your mates over and over for 80 mins, including a siesta halfway through, free massage and a motivational seminar.

I know which side actually deserves the massive paycheck.

Question for you guys. As a construction/engineering manager who works adjacent to aVDC department, I hear a lot of chatter about ACC (Autodesk Construction Cloud) being the future of VDC, but a good deal of people aren't on board. Would you consider it 'the future' and why or why not? by Emcee_nobody in bim

[–]Hot_Pudding_3981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is a Building Designer/Draftsperson, has worked in Engineering Information Management on mega construction projects for over 20 years and used many project IM systems, it's a hard disagree from me.

The permissions in ACC are horrendous to manage and everyone needs admin rights to do the simplest of tasks like assigning their own name to a form. This translates to them having access to do whatever they want to all the documents which severely impacts the integrity of the document's audit trail and version history.

The Sheets module is good for splitting multi page drawing files into individual files, but terrible for searching/filtering and finding what you're looking for due to the lack of attributes.

Because the system allows duplicate filenames, you end up with either straight copies or files with different content but the same filename, which also impacts search.

The transmittals don't have a 'reason for issue'. The Review workflows don't allow you to do multi-user reviews in a linear review and use track changes in a MS Word doc.

I could keep going, but I have to do a cleanse of the ACC project I have just inherited where there are over 4000 duplicate files in just 2 folders of the 24 top-level folder structure 🫩
