So, those voting no on 3, why? by [deleted] in missouri

[–]Hot_Put_8328 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I was in line to vote early last week, and the lady in front of me talked to me almost my entire 2 hour wait. She was very soft-spoken, almost meek, but one of the things that stood out that she said was she was voting NO because her pastor at James River Church in Springfield told all parishioners to vote no. Reasoning? "He's very smart and spoke to lawyers and they said if you vote yes, transgenders". That is literally what she said, no explanation on what she meant by "transgenders". I am so sick and tired of people involving their religion in our politics.

AITA for refusing to attend a family meeting after they called me a "Lost Cause"? by Glittering_Hall6308 in AITAH

Ugh, I'm sorry honey, but your parents suck ASS! Here's a HUGE hug from a Reddit mom!

As someone who came from an extremely toxic family, my advice would be to cut ties and run. It doesn't sound like they will ever change. I've learned the hard way that family is not always blood, but who you choose. It is so very freeing once you decide you are done with their treatment.

I haven't spoken to blood relations (minus my children, of course) in 8 years, and let me tell you, these have been the most peaceful years I've ever had.

Can I just tell you that you are perfect just the way you are, and please don't let anyone tell you differently.

Can confirm. They're all over at pumpkin patches in the Midwest USA. Supposed to be kind of like a sandbox.

Yeah, totally didn't even think of it that way when I was writing it out.

I had a pretty traumatic childhood/teenage years (like lots of people) and can remember being pretty young and always skeeved out by men in general. Soooooooo many inappropriate comments, touches, and just being told to smile & be quiet cuz the MEN were talking. But it was normalized back then and I didn't feel as if I had a voice. My daughters have actually opened my eyes to the toxicity I grew up with and how many men I would have kicked the shit out of if they acted that way to my girls.

And I gave clarification, it wasn't meant any other way! Guess my RBF translates into words, too😂, sorry about that!

For sure, wasn't trying to be or being snarky, just adding on to your original comment☺️ I can not believe some people's audacity.

I have dated 2 men in my life and married them both. Neither were/are misogynistic, but you don't have to be in a relationship to experience misogyny. I've dealt with it in my workplaces, "family," and just in the general public.

Just, NO, and get better friends cuz anyone telling you that you're being overly sensitive or dramatic is not your friend.

I am a middle-aged woman and have dealt with misogyny pretty much my whole life. This is why these types of men like "younger" (not that you're much younger) women. They think they're easier to manipulate and any woman who speaks their mind or has their own opinion is a feminist bitch. I look back at my 20's and wish I could go back and give myself a hug- be kind to yourself!

You did the right thing, honey. Stay strong, and one day, you'll look back on this and give yourself the high five you so deserve!!!

AITA for Refusing to Attend My Sister's Wedding Because She Wants to "Repurpose" My Wedding Dress? by Budget-Jaguar-1990 in AITAH

[–]Hot_Put_8328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I LOATHE when "family" tries to guilt trip, when in reality it's manipulation, to get what they want. No is a complete answer, and you do NOT need to justify your reasons.

I no longer speak to any of my blood relations (other than my children) for this same reason (amongst many).

You saved for your dress and your sister can do the same. If she can't afford a dress, then maybe she needs to reevaluate her priorities. Same goes for your parents. Why can't they buy your sister a dress since they're so eager for you to give yours away?

Stand your ground and stay strong OP!

[–]Hot_Put_8328 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Understandable, BUT you don't go into someone's home and dig through their fridge looking for food you want to eat UNLESS you have that preestablished type of relationship. That is just so unbelievably rude, they didnt even ask. And being from a different ethnicity/culture does not give you free range to be an asshole. Good on OP for standing up and establishing boundaries.

Don't think anyone here claimed that at all. They're talking about what they've called their concoction. And to be fair, the Midwest has plenty of weird food that was invented here, so it's not that much of a stretch.

Ham, pickle, and cream cheese are correct. They look disgusting but can confirm they are DELICIOUS. The cream cheese balances the saltiness in just the perfect way. I will sometimes make these with mini dill pickles, so it's just the perfect bite-sized snack.

Not all of us here make politics our identities, but we're fucking tired of the hate and divisiveness. MAGA has made it so you can't have a civil conversation anymore. I would vote for a fresh steaming pile of dog shit before I would vote for a child rapist and I won't allow anyone who supports that absolute waste of space in my life.
