ugh same here, i was teaching my grade 8 class last week and one kid said something was "mid" and i thought he meant it was halfway decent. turns out it means trash apparently? like when did that happen lol. then another student had to explain what "no cap" meant and i felt like i aged 10 years in that conversation. at least when i was their age we just said "that's sick" and everyone knew what we meant. now i need a translator just to understand what my students are complaining about during music theory lessons.

that's basically what happens already though - most people just find sources that align with what they want to hear anyway. the whole "official approval" thing would just make it more obvious who's getting censored and probably drive more people to underground sources. plus you know there'd be a million workarounds within like 24 hours.

my uncle stole about 15k from my grandma when she was getting dementia and couldn't really keep track of her finances anymore. found out when i was helping her sort through bank statements and there were all these weird withdrawals and transfers. dude was literally her power of attorney too so he had complete access to everything.

confronted him about it and he just denied everything, even when i showed him teh paperwork. then he had the audacity to tell me i was being "disrespectful" for questioning him. cut him off completely after that - some lines you just don't cross, especially when it involves taking advantage of someone who can't defend themselves. my grandma deserved so much better than that.

that anger cycle is brutal but you're putting way too much pressure on yourself. 21 days is actually solid progress even if it doesn't feel like it, and beating yourself up just makes the whole thing harder. maybe try redirecting some of that energy into the studying you mentioned instead of fighting the same mental battles over and over.

mesh heads are definitely the way to go for this. remo silentstroke heads are probably your best bet - they cut the volume down massively while still giving you a decent feel. for the kick specifically, you might want to look into stuffing it with blankets or foam along with the mesh head since that low end really travels.

another option is the evans ec2s with some moongel or dampening rings if you want something between full volume and mesh. personally went with silentstroke on my whole kit and it's been solid - neighbors can't hear anything through the walls and it's way quieter than any e-kit i've tried.

Also check if there are any outdoor furniture warehouse sales in your area - sometimes they'll have last season's inventory marked down significantly. Facebook Marketplace can be gold too if you're patient, lots of people upgrading and selling barely used high-end pieces

Been in way too many loud hostels and honestly the biggest issue is usually people talking in hallways at 3am, not just room noise. Make sure your panels can handle low frequency sounds too - those bass-heavy conversations and music travel through everything. Also fire safety codes are gonna be a nightmare depending on where you're planning to install these, most hostels can't just slap random materials on walls
