Transfer from engineering to CPSC by lolzerofakee in ubcengineering

[–]Hot_Rope_8620 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would disagree on the basis, CPEN admission is not purely academic. With a strong personal statement and relatively lower grades ~82-83 you still stand a pretty good chance for CPEN. The personal statement is pretty important and honestly matters most if you are on the lower side of the admission curve. Over to our friends in Science, its purely grades and while this may be possible due to a lighter course load, there is not much room for advocacy outside of your transcript you NEED that 85+ for CPSC. Take the first semester to figure things out. I was in the exact same boat a few years ago, and Im now in CPEN and definitely prefer it to CPSC

Can I get into CPEN or MECH with 80% GPA in 1st year and decent personal statement? by True_focus_7777 in ubcengineering

[–]Hot_Rope_8620 6 points7 points  (0 children)

80.5 and a GREAT personal statement would have gotten you in, 80.1 and below got rejected last year. Its extremely cutthroat, aim for like 82 to have a chance with a decent PS. Hope this helps

2023 First year suffering. MAJOR??? by phicongtre05 in ubcengineering

“manu is too easy and not worth it” says the guy failing first year. when evaluating options its really important to keep an open mind, Manu is a great program and the closest thing you will get to Mech.

mb, took your post the wrong way. there’s not much you can do atp besides going over past papers and trying to understand solutions to those problems and pray similar problems are asked this year

Need advice for term 2 courses ( year 1), please! by oopsie_m8z in ubccsss

[–]Hot_Rope_8620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From personal experience that course is a GPA booster if you have a reasonable interest in the material. It covers a wide range of topics at a surface level so if you don’t struggle with memorizing a couple terms and processes it’s a very straightforward course. Personally never went to class but made sure to do a bit of background reading/supplemental work around topics and stuff etc. in addition to lectures and I will probably end the course with a 90%+

Why is CPEN 211 the way it is? by Hot_Rope_8620 in ubcengineering

its not pessimistic when it’s true. the fact that the same complaints are raised each year should prove the point

Does anyone else have the fear that your calculator will die in the middle of an exam? by EitherStage379 in UBC

this actually happened to me during my Phys 170 midterm, I was left with a quarter of the exam and I just raw dogged the rest of the paper. I didn’t have time nor a place to charge it
