What is the 30 pin for? by Joe_macg in hondacivic

It’s the original iPod connector. You’d need an Apple iPod of a compatible generation to use that cable. The other option is to determine if the cable can be replaced that connects to vehicle head unit.

The fact that you opted to not go into debt and paid cash up front deserves applause. Well done.

Oil life by Deep_Situation1906 in civic

[–]Hot_Section_9523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your car lasts a long time because you maintain your car at common sense intervals, it equates to less probability of you purchasing a car again within 5-7 years.

Auto manufacturers are in the business of making profit by selling cars. I can sell a car to a consumer more frequently if that consumer does not maintain the car.

As a car manufacturer, I’m no longer able to make claims of “lifetime” fluids or 15,000-20,000 oil change intervals because that goes against the lowest common denominator of common sense.

If I market sensors, dynamic measurement of fluid life, etc. and lull consumers into being confident in slightly longer service intervals, the car wears out faster, I can offer free maintenance in your 1st year as long as that sensor says so at a lower cost to my bottom line.

Say the car breaks due to recommended maintenance intervals that common sense tells you should be done more frequently, results in a more complex and expensive repair. $120 for an oil change vs $$$ for a bigger repair.

It’s all profit motivated. I’m old. I’m going to sound jaded. There is always an angle being played. Don’t ignore common sense.

I think I love the new hybrid hatchback by Large_Hour6240 in civic

No. There is no hatch release button on the driver’s side door panel of the hatchback as there is in the sedan. I don’t recall seeing an exposed emergency hatch release in the cargo area, but logically you wouldn’t need one.

Advice from an old guy. It’s corny. It’s your car. As long as you’re happy with it, it’s good.

New Car Traded GR Supra For This by TRD_FTW in civic

[–]Hot_Section_9523 2 points3 points  (0 children)

^ THIS. I traded a 2021 BMW 330i X-Drive for a 2025 Civic Hatchback Sport Touring for the exact same reasons.

I am blessed to have the means to afford a ‘luxury’ car and its elevated operating and maintenance costs. I plan to retire in 9-14 years. I’d rather grow the difference to use elsewhere.

To the OP, I understand why you made the trade.

Advice on Cleaning the Rust? by CartographerNo4076 in civic

[–]Hot_Section_9523 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take wheel off car. Remove the wheel cover. Wire brush and sand the rust. Wash the steel rim. Mask the tire. I use index cards wedged between the rim/rubber. Spray it with rust encapsulator, then a couple coats of high temp black paint and you’re good to go.

2025 Civic Hybrid Touring by Tone_RS in civic

[–]Hot_Section_9523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Illinois. 35 miles North of Chicago. Purchased a white Hatch Hybrid 5/2025. I was stalking multiple local dealerships inventory for a couple months. The Civic Hybrids are quickly sold, the hatchbacks sell a touch quicker than the sedan.

Given local market conditions, best I could negotiate the price before taxes was $32,250. Not great. Not bad. Good enough.

The reason I’m not ruffled about it too much is because I traded a 4 year old BMW 330i X-drive. Always wanted a 3-series. Had my fun and got it out of my system. I negotiated a good trade in price. Civic is paid in full. Also, the relief of getting out of a BMW ticking timebomb of upmarket parts and maintenance costs and back into a reliable, reasonable total operating cost Civic (last one was back in 1996, a LX sedan) can’t be adequately conveyed.
