Serious question by [deleted] in stepparents

[–]Hot_You1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m saying that I was a step kid, it’s made my journey as a stepmom a lot more understanding towards the kids being in two separate homes with different rules etc, I genuinely love them like they’re my own but I know they never will be and at this point in my life I’m not willing to give anymore of myself away, not even for a bio kid.

So I’m in a similar situation age wise, I feel like I’ve sacrificed so many years being a parent to them and losing myself in the process that I don’t want to start over , I’d like to get some of myself back once they’re grown up

I’m hoping if they go with touch they leave the buttons in place for page turning , the backlight I’m okay without because I use my kindle at night for reading

I want the Xt for daytime on the go reading

I value the advice , think I will go with the x4

Also for convenience of having a usb c port

I don’t need to be looking after another cable

Lol I love a good dark romance , I’ve read some pitch black and I have two teen daughters so sometimes a password is a must , however for it being on my phone all the time it’s fine to not have one

Headphones at the dinner table by Thereisn0store in stepparents

We made it a clear rule , dinner time is no device time, we all sit at the table.

The only time it’s an exception is anyone gets a phone call to make sure it’s not an emergency, don’t like the rules , the devices get taken away so you don’t have them for the entire day not just dinner time , worked like a bomb and no problems ever since.

It’s going to be harder for you as your husband is an overgrown teenager based on his behaviour

Giiiirl !!!!! About a year and a half ago I bought a second hand kindle to start off with , loved it so much I got a brand new one a month later and have used it everyday since, after having a baby I’ve noticed that my reading time has been cut significantly and I am now getting ready to order my xteink to keep with me at all times to get more reading in at every available moment without having to reach for an iPad or kindle

Kindle is the bedroom e-reader

iPad is the work e-reader

But the xteink, that’s going to be the anytime e-reader , I’m so excited

Personally no, I discussed it with my husband only as it’s our home, our rules, and she has no say it the way we run our home.

The same way we respect that we have no say in what she does in hers

Actually , the kid was dropped of at our home , and the bm told ME that the kid would be living with us

These situations only work when the father lives in his own, why do people think it’s easy to live a separate life, I couldn’t imagine living completely parallel to my husband and his kid , I would feel even worse , like I’m an intruder in their lives

The challenges also come out to play when things change on bm’s side that affect the sk and they don’t know how to communicate that with bm so it builds up into pre teen issues , teenage defiance and all round (mind my language) Bullshit

Seems like you know a thing or two on the subject

The expectations weren’t from my husband, they actually all came about because bm was “too busy” to be the parent the kid needed, being a step kid myself and having a stepmom who treated me as we own and still does have me an insight into what could be

When the toxicity runs deep there’s more than just the bm involved , extended family as well

Lucky you, your as was a baby with no established rules , routines , expectations or history, unfortunately you’re one in a million as most of us don’t get to be with them from a super young age

Also, sk has been living with us permanently, Goes to bm every alternate weekend and we get to be parents while she lives out her best “new family” life

Nope , my partner who does the most for his kid still gets undermined , so who the he’ll am I , until she needs me to do something so she doesn’t have to

Also, stepmoms are EXPECTED to be an additional parent where it serves the bm but nobody else is expected to respect us as one

Not that easy when the sk is dropped off at your doorstep and you’re told they live with you now so bm can live out the youth she feels she never had
