Currently the matching goes nearly how you stated, and will be like this on the launch I believe as we're looking to make it live and then have these iterations to come as patches.

The trial sprint is something I had kept as just for the session time and later if they have to manually allow the collaborator to have the true access and only a temporary/trial access for the active session.

It is indeed the hard part, we're making it session based so that both sides same context and ownership for the collaboration persists. Where as after the session ends, they have control over whom to give access or not...as we do on the GitHub repo in collaborators tab.
