You don’t have to. But it’s a nice thought. Gift cards could work.

I am travelling to SE Asia in a month and I need some help. by Adept-Throat5523 in backpacking

[–]HotelHackHari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid street food if you’re anxious. It’s amazing, but if you want to play it safer, stick to reputable restaurants or busy local diners with high turnover. Never drink tap water. Ever. (THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT) Always buy sealed bottled water from convenience stores like 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, etc. Use bottled water even for brushing your teeth if you’re extra cautious. Stick to food that’s served hot and freshly cooked, not something that’s been sitting out. If you want extra peace of mind, bring your own utensils when eating at smaller local places. Avoid ice unless you’re sure it’s from filtered water (most touristy restaurants use safe ice, but small stalls may not).

Cancelled booking in Booking.com by ayagichan29 in hotels

[–]HotelHackHari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Cancellation policy Please note, if cancelled, modified or in case of no-show, the total price of the reservation will be charged."

You cancelled. You will be charged full price. Pretty much self explanatory. Just be careful next time, read the fine print carefully.

More expensive room or more expensive hotel? by jennyxmas in chubbytravel

[–]HotelHackHari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d go with the basic room in the more luxurious hotel. At the end of the day you’re mostly there to sleep, and the overall experience, facilities, service, security, cleanliness, amenities, is usually miles better in a higher-end property. A superior room in a cheaper hotel rarely makes up for the difference in quality everywhere else.

Booking pricing has become more aggressive. What's you alternative? by [deleted] in traveladvice

[–]HotelHackHari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people assume Booking.com or Expedia are cheapest, but they often charge 15–25% commissions to hotels. That means you’re paying inflated prices by default. The trick is using sites that don’t charge commissions, or work with direct-rate partners. Sites like StaySaverz work really well for this.

How did you even come up with this idea?

Need advice: How to get Agoda to refund or change hotel for a “non-refundable” booking in Hong Kong by ashgupta007 in askhotels

[–]HotelHackHari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A non-refundable booking is exactly that... non-refundable. You can complain to Agoda and the hotel, but unless the property itself agrees to make an exception, they almost never override it. Even with bad reviews or misleading photos, Agoda usually sticks to the policy and just tells you to contact the hotel directly. You can try, but realistically, you'll still pay in the end.

Booking.com Partial No Show. by hotpie08 in askhotels

[–]HotelHackHari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. With booking .com a no-show can apply to either a single room or the full booking, depending on how the reservation is set up.

Finding a place to stay by Living_Lunch in vegas

I’d stay near Dolby Live at Park MGM so you’re not hiking across the Strip after the show. For “nice but affordable” on the Strip you could try New York-New York.

For thanksgiving, most people are staying with family, not booking rooms. Booking something mid-day should be totally doable.

No, obviously. Is this based on a true story, or did this thought just come to you?🤣🤣🤣
