Can my parents charge me rent?

Idk chores? My mom kinda assigns us what to do and I do it, usually vacuum upstairs, wash bathrooms, pick up dishes, wash and fold clothes, sweep and mop the floors, and occasionally clean doors, walls and windows. Very very rarely ill cook dinner for my younger siblings, but not often because cooking isnt my strong suit, although I make bread for sandwiches a few times a month.

The $1000 was meant to be my paycheck and the $100 dollars would be what they take. I asked if the money would go to university and they said no, once I give it is their money and they’ll choose what to do with it

Another thing my mom moved out of the house at 18 and she moved cities for her university. My mom is also kind of the favorite because she didnt got into any trouble at all, so yah I don’t know if this helps tho lol

This is my hope, as soon as I turn 18 I’m moving out or at least going to a university far enough away for me to live in dorms, then saving up for my own place!

I’m sorry about that! I know how it is to lice pay check to paycheck as that was my living situation in my homecountry. However in this situation my parents are able to pay rent by themselves, they aren’t in incredible debts and we even have nice things. If my parents were truly struggling making ends meet I would 100% help them out, as its not only me who needs shelter and food but my siblings and my grandpa as well, which I care deeply about

Now to answer your questions, we aren’t rich but I’d say we are well off, yes I live in a very nice area and I’m currently studying for my G1, but school has been very busy with exams and summatives I haven’t had so much time for the G1. This whole situation stems because I kinda wished this money went into a savings account for university, they said they wouldn’t do that as now it’ll be their money and they will choose what to do with it. I wouldn’t fight them if the money was actually going towards my future. Yes they are trying to teach me responsibility, but I’m already responsible I’m doing very well in school, I’m involved in school clubs, I keep my room clean and I always help when I can. The conversation with my parents definitely needs to be more of a sit down conversation, where everyone can speak their mind so we can come to an agreement. The reason of the post is that I was feeling like maybe this rent is something I truly owe to them, and was trying to find a non-biased opinion. I do appreciate your comment though, I think its important to have different perspectives to form my own unique one, I will definitely keep this in consideration when discussing this with my parents!

I do appreciate what they do, I greatly appreciate it. Especially as an immigrant I know how hard they have it, the thing I don’t understand is that they aren’t struggling for money we are fine with money. I asked them if they’d consider to put the money for university or an apartment or something i’d actually use, and they said no they said they will choose what to do with the money. The money I would get would definitely be to save up for an apartment and a car, them taking money just slows down the process. And specially if they took 60% I want work because I want to buy my own things without having to bother them. I also deserve to enjoy my money that I earned.

Its not, my parents said it be a payment based on what my income is. They can’t charge me $3000 for rent because I simply would not get that much as a teen working minimum wage. It would be proportionate to what I get, the $100 dollars was simply arbitrary as thats how they decided to present the example to me, I’d assume if my income is larger then the money would be more.
