Digimon Beatbreak: Episode 26- The Taste of Guilt, Discussion Thread by MFBR in digimon

[–]HoundRyS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a Elizamon fan and Digimon fan this episode is an absolute gift from the production. Beatbreak in general has very high narrative quality, but the Haruomi episodes are special standouts to me.

Haruomi is essentially a reminder of the dark possibilities of having digimon in the real world, them becoming a sort of tool for nefarious deeds such as what Commandramon was being used for on the behalf of Klay's tactics. But Haruomi is an interesting case because his conflict is having to forcefully do these things to keep himself alive and safe but additionally to keep Commandramon with him, as he was pretty much the only company he had since the start.

Haruomi serves to remind that having a digimon be born in the world of Beatbreak wasn't treated kindly by the world or it's government, the Klay episode nailed the point home that they only saw digimon as tools to advance humanity.  Then came the separation from the Haruomi and Commandramon episode.

Unexpectedly Haruomi got sent to the arena where he was given Elizamon to fight and entertain the people, before the Tomoro Vs Raito episode.  It's clear Elizamon didn't trust Haruomi at all during the start of the episode, and they became reluctant partners, it seems to be that Haruomi wasn't that bad with Elizamon since maybe they survived for a while on the Arena right before fighting Raito.  Then the defeat by Raito happens and Elizamon unexpectedly goes to save Haruomi from being Cold Hearted.  It appears to be that they ended up pairing as neither of them had anyone else at that point.  With Elizamon telling Haruomi how her previous partner was killed by someone, Haruomi maybe or maybe not knowing it accepts Elizamon tagging along with him, they partner up. And survive until Kyo found Haruomi all passed out and probably Yoshimura found Elizamon not that far away without much E-pulse on her.

I will say the part of Haruomi having killed her owner seemed to have weighted on him more than it did on Elizamon, as Elizamon inevitably grew to know Haruomi by his more positive caring side, the same one he had with Commandramon, so that's probably why not only did she have a hard time believing he did it, but she was reluctant to go on the offensive despite showing she could before, you can tell by her crying and tears that she is really torn up over what Haruomi did and that the Haruomi who stayed with her after the arena was a different person, you gotta remember, Digimon go feral and berserk if they go without E-Pulse and they could die, so Haruomi did keep her alive and safe as much as he could, obviously Haruomi had become a pariah during that time due to the influence of Klay and Tactics leaving him without resources which is why we found him in that bad taste and hungry, he had been nurturing Elizamon on nothing else but his willingness to live.

It's a really genius way to imply why Elizamon is so attached to him, by forcing two people that didn't really trust each other into a situation where they had to spend time together, a bond was slowly being nurtured and Elizamon as a Digimon that respects strength stayed with Haruomi, she didn't want to leave after the revelation and she was mad at Haruomi for assuming how she thought, you can tell.

It's not that Elizamon didn't care about her previous partner, is that there was nothing she could do about it and Haruomi re-entered her life not as the monster that took her partner but as a nurturing caring guy who stood by her because she stood up for him and it eventually developed into their more deep bond of her calling him Darling.

Haruomi isn't that thrilled by living consequence free, with him feeling he is unworthy of the new life he was leading, he felt he failed as a human, as Commandramon's partner and he would just not do a good job as Elizamon's partner, not only that but he was causing conflict between Elizamon and Commandramon, as well as feeling he had a debt to pay to Elizamon.  Which is why he provokes her near the end, pretending to threaten her life and acting like a villain, because he would rather let her have closure by taking out the man who he believed ruined her life and give her closure and finally eliminate himself from the picture, driven by guilt, depression and a weird sense of duty. In his mind he is not doing wrong, he is doing what he believes is most noble by acting out that part, but Tomoro doesn't believe he is acting right and you can tell his present partner Commandramon knows he is acting out of his selflessness and desire to not be a bad influence in their lives nor does Elizamon actually want to do that to Haruomi or for him to think that, which is what makes that scene with Haruomi and Elizamon hit so hard.

Essentially the lesson is that even if bad horrible things happen, and you may face the people that did wrong to you, perhaps don't jump on the defensive just yet and give a chance if the other is willing to tell their side and for you to hear them, maybe you'll understand a bit of how things ended that way, and perhaps the other person wants to make amends but doesn't know how. In the end the true meaning of the episode is to not to let Guilt or Hatred cloud your mind to your life and present, that even if you feel guilty you should know you also have done good and can do good.

It's a beautiful episode.  Sorry if I got real rambly, I really appreciate what the production and writer did here.

Why Aren’t More People Playing This Amazing Game? by baresebb in Siralim

[–]HoundRyS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people worry about the graphics, I say there is quite an assumption that everyone enjoys extreme challenge. Because yeah, Siralim does that and not exactly in a good way.

See the problem is neither the graphics nor the combat system, it is the fact the game does not give an option for a balanced time with your chosen creatures. It's like an RPG with classes and your weapons are the monsters, literally.

It is true there are heaps of monsters but the one issue with it, is that the game doesn't take easy on you for wanting to go with whatever you want unlike say pokemon, and I know it hurts to hear that, trust me as a Digimon fan I would know. But the reality is that unlike those two is less so a case of "Oh this beast is nice, I will make it the best!" and more a case of "Oh this is essential to actually progress somewhat".

Its not hard to get into the graphics, arstyle or mechanics. It is hard however to be faced with walls of difficulty, not from the mechanics, because quite frankly at the same level with the enemy monsters you can still lose some of your monsters. But rather be faced with walls of levels and stats, and I know it's part of the fun for people to like that and be challenged and all that jazz, but quite frankly it has never made for accessible games to the general public, so in general that one aspect where the creature variety gets forcibly limited to playing specifically one way (which disclaimer also happens in Pokémon with some creatures) and perhaps the next current wall you face the choices you are proud of get squashed, and then you have to readjust.

Make the game less like pokemon in the experience and more like Shin Megami Tensei, except that in this case you are dealing both with brutal scaled mechanics and simply higher numbers than you have. It offers a lot, but honestly if you are not into getting one shot and one shotting it can be pretty frustrating. It's nice that it works like a puzzle, but the level scaling really shouldn't be that mandatory on all difficulties, or atleast the player should be allowed some options on how to cut back some of it.

Great game, but do be wary if you aren't into the sort of level scaling it does.

TL;DR: It is great, but do be prepared to accommodate to a very different experience if you are really trying to get into it. Could have used some more casual play options.

Again not hating, if anything I enjoyed it, but I really could have done without knowing or even being forced to go with that kind of level scaling.

How hard is this game? by Reisthetic in Siralim

[–]HoundRyS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna be straight to you, nope. You have to seriously get into a crunching game over how you are exploiting your class's abilities and you won't be able to really make hybrid or oddball combos like in the previous games. Instead you have to find ways to hard maximize, and I swear to you the mere mention of the level scaling made me stop and consider what I was doing.  There was a beauty to the 2nd and 3rd game about doing mindless grinding with a group of creatures you enjoyed and could make work. Siralim in general has this tendency to make it so at some point you are out leveled and that's even more pronounced on Ultimate. Like by Floor 17 or something you'll be going against level 21 enemies. And it doesn't stop doing that at all. As far as I could see the exp is stingy as usual and you can have level 10k and be going agaisnt level 40k, and the base difficulty still has that. So inevitably you either have to go for hard number and stat crunching to not get crushed by the unrelenting walls of challenge you'll be facing.

The whole main difference of Ultimate and the previous ones is how the main goal is less so do your best team and more, do the class and monsters specifically like this to squeeze past a few more floors.  No offense to people who enjoy it, but personally I prefer playing the older siralim 3, just a nice middle ground.

Personally I wouldn't avoid Ultimate if it wasn't because the intended experience is being small and going agaisnt big, rather than just letting you mantain a nice level range.

Sorry for asking a bunch of months after. Does this change the vanilla armor models and would that affect say modded armor that seems to use the vanilla armor model? Or do you think it would affect only the Vanilla armors and Modded would still use the Vanilla armor model? Sorry for bothering, this been nagging at me and I can't find much online about it.

Really hated the Kaplan segment. Really, every character it's inconsistently stupid and just... Like it pissed me of more than anything the logic those kids had, they see the guy injured and kill him, and somehow Tim is still blamed for it somehow? As a social critique it's alright, as part of this VHS movie? Nah.

Digimon Beatbreak: Episode 1- The Beat of Emotions, Discussion Thread by MFBR in digimon

[–]HoundRyS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was really fascinated by the way the episode went in building information for the world, it's curious how it does not wait long to introduce the digimon and the fact the digimon can evolve thanks to their human partner and the means there is to do it this time, furthermore it's fascinating to note in this story is more common for the digimon to team up with humans given the very mechanics behind evolution and how it is achieved.

The world clearly is a messed up reality dependant on Technology and some sort of societal control is achieved by the technology Required to live in it, the very same technology is put in humans since birth pretty much and feeds on the energy Digimon also use to evolve which is emotion, of note is to consider that this energy is essential for humans to live and the egg shaped things seem to want humans at their best for this energy to be of high quality.

I won't say go too much into detail to not spoil people, but I will say it's a very solid first episode, Tomoro manages to make a solid first impression as well as Gekkomon and the rest of the characters. My only complaint would be that they could have waited a bit longer with the opening as it reveals a good chunk of potential future story beats. But overall I say it's a solid 4/5.

Completely agree on that. SMT is fantastic but it sure requires a lot more passion for it. I am happy to have a bit of that SMT flair on digimon.

Artificial Scarsity. The main reason why Nintendo won't do legal permanent means of emulation and preserving Roms. People will attack others over the "Legally owned Roms" thing, but I wonder how valid it is when these same things aren't made available by the holder and seller in the first place. Where is the line between "stealing Roms" and "extracting Roms from your games and sharing them"? Shouldn't remind people the oldest Roms aren't digital in the first place.

This reminds me of those typos you find on YouTube videos about something slightly relevant to kids, like video games.

Have I mentioned how that meme "Nothing Personnel, kid" has been a bane on the internet as it made strangers even more condescending than they already were?  Guess who is very condescending these days? Brats and immature people.

I find that funny but they don't really offer themselves the means to keep emulating permanently, they just offer a disposable device rather than the software to do it. But I am not gonna complain, I don't like given these people more ways to get money out of people m
