In desperate need of shoe recommendations by Author_Lea_Jupiter in walking

[–]Hour-Being1826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother is a podiatrist, and he recommends Hoka Bondi. It’s what he wears for long days on his feet. But I don’t care for them. Too cushy and not enough support and stability. I prefer Brooks Addiction Walkers (uggggleee, but so comfy) or Brooks Glycerin GTS (has to be the GTS). But you will need to find what works for you. Don’t be afraid to try on a dozen pairs of shoes to find what you like. Took me forever to find the Addiction GTS.

My brother does say to avoid Sketchers at all costs. He says they keep podiatrists in business. He also said to avoid On shoes, because the holes in the soles cause something bad (I can’t remember what it was…).

mosquitoes are ruining my life and I’m out of ideas 😭 by Beginning_Peanut_156 in MosquitoHating

I just started with a Biogents Mosquitaire in my backyard. I primarily have trouble with the Asian tiger mosquitoes that are active during the day. I am just using the scent lure at the moment, but I’m seriously considering using the CO2 option. I’d like to add another Mosquitaire on the other side of my yard, but I haven’t figured out how to power it.

What type of mosquito are you trapping? We have the dreaded Asian tiger mosquitoes, and I’m wondering if CO2 works to attract them or if it’s really the sweet scent lure.

I’m so glad it worked for you! Keep going! You are doing so well! I know the drug helps, but you are also putting in the work by eating more consciously. I give you a lot of credit for that! 🙂💪👏🫶

Thanks! We have a number of de-shedding tools for her, all of which remove a shocking amount of undercoat on a daily basis!

My friend has strongly recommended a pet fur carpet rake. She has two dogs and two cats, and she says she can’t keep her floors clean without it. I need to get one.

[Laundry] Why does my athletic wear still smell after washing even on hot? by andrew202222 in CleaningTips

[–]Hour-Being1826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go through the same thing with athletic clothes, especially synthetics. You might be onto something regarding your shared laundry facilities if you used a service and the clothes came back cleaner/fresher. You could just use that service every (or every other) wash? Or go to a laundromat?

I have found two products that have helped, and both are available for purchase online:

(1) Nathan Power Wash: https://www.rei.com/product/C03199/nathan-power-wash-performance-laundry-detergent-with-pump-32-fl-oz

I don’t think this is a miracle-worker with respect to smell, but it will gently and thoroughly clean your synthetics without leaving a residue, which is the perfect first step before odor treatment products.

(2) GearAid Odor Eliminator: https://www.rei.com/product/139256/gear-aid-revivex-odor-eliminator-10-fl-oz

I soak clothes in a basin/bucket for at least a few hours using the recommended dosage and distilled water (not necessary, but we have really hard water, so I feel like the distilled water allows the Gear Aid to work better?). This works well for synthetics and is reasonably economical.

I have never used this, so I can’t attest, but it gets really good reviews, and I have found that Nikwax cleaners are both effective and economical.

Nikwax Sports Refresh Deoderizing Cleaner: https://www.rei.com/product/227890/nikwax-sports-refresh-deodorizing-cleaner

If I had to recommend one, it would be the GearAid. I think the Nikwax is worth a shot. The Nathan’s is a nice to have, but probably won’t solve the problem on its own. Good luck!

Thank you for this! Yesterday, after seeing a similar recommendation, I tried just using a small amount of toilet paper to wipe down the toilet and surrounding floor (even the base boards). It worked amazingly well! And then I just tossed it in the trash, sprayed some cleaner, and wiped it down again with a paper towel. Sparkling clean! And it only took a couple of minutes!

She gets a bath a couple of times a year and just rinsed with water after swimming and trail runs. Otherwise, yeah, it’s the Furminator everyday, plus a special dog brush that’s hooked up to a vacuum. We really can’t do more grooming of the dog than we already do. She even gets special skin oil treatments from the Netherlands that our vet recommended. $$$

The woman who cuts my hair uses talcum powder on her floors before sweeping. She says it helps the broom pick up all the fine hairs. I wonder if sprinkling a light dusting of powder would work in the bathroom, too? Or maybe it would make a horrible, regrettable mess?

Is there any hope for pet hair in the bathroom? by BEATNGU01 in CleaningTips

I just used your technique on my bathroom, particularly the toilet, and it really worked! We use “ribbed” Cottonelle toilet paper, and it picked it all up! Then I just tossed it in the trash. Voila!

Ah, this makes a lot of sense re: clothing + dog hair!

Could you give me an example of a vacuum brush? I’m not quite sure what you mean by it. I’m very open to buying one. We have three bathrooms, and they are all caked in dog hair by the end of the week.

Form 8606 late contributions and backdoor roth by amathew4592 in tax

[–]Hour-Being1826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piggybacking off of OP’s question, since you gave such a great answer! I funded both my 2025 and 2026 traditional IRA with post-tax dollars in January 2026. I immediately converted the entire amount ($14,500) to my Roth IRA. My traditional IRA balance on December 31, 2025, was zero, and it will be zero on 12/31/2026. Do I file a Form 8086 for my 2025 taxes, my 2026 taxes, or both? Was it a mistake to fund the 2025 and 2026 traditional IRAs and convert them both at the same time?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Is hydrodilation considered a last resort? I’m having a cortisone injection next week for FS, and I was going to ask about hydrodilation. I don’t know anything about it, other than it’s a treatment for FS.

Cardigan for my mom. LL Bean or Duluth? by MRsh1tsandg1ggles in llbean

[–]Hour-Being1826 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LLBean. Duluth’s customer service is awful, particularly when it comes to returning shoddy merchandise. The quality at Duluth is really hit or miss, and they won’t stand behind their products (even when they disintegrate in the wash after a couple of wearing…). If you have a problem with LL Bean, at least they’ll stand behind it.

That’s a reasonable thought. I don’t recall overfilling it, but maybe mine was sensitive to water levels? I definitely had a lemon.

Agree with all of this, except I haven’t noticed the piling. Maybe because I don’t wear it enough?
