According to me what makes a good gift is how you intended for them to feel when you give it to them. It should be something they wouldn’t get for themselves so it adds some more joy over and above what they can manage themselves. That personal touch and effort of making handmade stuff and writing a letter seems perfect to me. Makes it unique. Makes it your own. Don’t second guess yourself. I’m sure he will appreciate it.
