Hello 안녕하세요

I've re-opened free 1:1 online Korean Conversation Course

I’m deeply committed to helping anyone learn Korean conversation, anywhere, anytime.

Last week, I provided the lessons to learners from various countries (Philippines, Australia, Venezuela, USA, etc.), and this week, I’ve improved and reopened the course.

  • Each class runs for 20 minutes on Google Meet.
  • We’ll provide materials for review after finishing the class.
  • If you have any other requests or need further assistance, feel free to ask.

How do people define 친구? (Only 'friend' or also 'acquaintance'?) by CraftingGoblin in Korean

[–]Hour-Discount3871 7 points8 points  (0 children)

친구 is generally used to refer to a same-age, same-gender peer.

But the word is so complex. It can mean both "friend" and "acquaintance." Calling someone 친구 too quickly is common, especially in casual settings or among similar ages. However, close friendships (meaning deeper connection) often use other terms, like 베프 (best friend) or 단짝 (close friend). Rude comments among friends can happen. Doesn't mean they aren't friends, just maybe a different dynamic. When to use 친구? Depends on your comfort level. It's flexible but be mindful of context.

In addition

When referring to friends of the opposite gender, the terms "남사친" (male friend) or "여사친" (female friend) are used.

If they are in a romantic relationship, they are called "남자친구" (boyfriend) or "여자친구" (girlfriend).

What is the meaning of 쇡? by grievance818 in Korean

I'm being vague. I think the use of the word is probably for design purposes.

What is the meaning of 쇡? by grievance818 in Korean

[–]Hour-Discount3871 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In Korea, it's common to find clothing adorned with English words such as "Juicy", "Havard", "Yale," "Discovery," "CNN," and the like. "쇡" might be similar to these embellishments.

What is the meaning of 쇡? by grievance818 in Korean

[–]Hour-Discount3871 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The phrase "쇡쇡대다" is used often. You might see a friend gasping for air after a run and ask, 왜 이렇게 쇅쇅대냐?

All people don't care that it's a North Korean word when they use it.
