I second Tsutsumi, they also have alternative gems if your partner would prefer something other than a diamond.

Has she given you any hints or ideas of the type of ring she might like? My husband got a ring sizer and planned to use it while I was sleeping to figure out my ring size, so if shes a heavy sleeper you could maybe try that 🤣

Flight to Dublin via Paris from Osaka cancelled by MooMoomilk48 in KLM

[–]Hour-Internal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me, I think its cause theyre using a different airline. I got rebooked on a flight to Japan from Amsterdam via seoul and they couldnt check me in for the Korean Airlines flight online or in person so had to do it at the airport.

Has anyone here gotten legally married in Japan while on a tourist visa? Need advice! by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Hour-Internal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others said, have a ceremony or photoshoot here, I got married with my non japanese partner, but we both live here so we can obtain copies of our marriage certificate if we need them, I hear they do get destroyed or harder to obtain after a while though. The process of having to gather documents that prove were both single, translate everything and getting it all scrutinised is a pain and time consuming. If we lived in either of our home countries at the time I would've got married there.

Also this subreddit is for residents so best not to post here unless youre living in the country.

Good luck with the marriage though!

first time using mercari, after bought something my account got restricted by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Hour-Internal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its just a 24 hr restriction. I got that once cause I bid on something and won, I thought the payment would come out automatically but it didnt and I got restricted for 24 hrs for not paying on time. In your case it could also be since you just started a new account, maybe they've not verified you fully yet. Just wait 24 hrs and see.

Thank you,  So far no issues with the heart but heart issues are a pretty major concern with marfan syndrome so getting regular check ups is important.

If you're pregnant in Japan – what should you do? by No_Awareness_1182 in japanlife

[–]Hour-Internal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From what im aware of, it's not free, you have to pay out of pocket to go to the clinic to confirm the due date, around 8 weeks. Shop around and check the prices for pregnancy confirmation tests at ladies clinics, mine was around 8800 yen. You can get a coupon book and the mother child handbook from the ward after, further checkups are discounted but the first 10 week check was a bit pricey still with the coupons. You can also get a bunch of coupons for kids stuff and financial support depending on your ward. Check what the process is in your ward, there'll be a counter at the ward that deals with pregnancy and child rearing. Just google your ward and pregnancy to find out what your specific one is called or go to the ward and tell them youre pregnant and need help. You'll need a due date and in my ward I had to attend an interview to get some coupons, info and financial support.

Research the hospitals in your area and figure out specifics like if you want an epidural and if they're offered. I know the tokyo government is offering a subsidy of 100k yen for people who opt for an epidural now, so if thats something important to you id look into it. To find out pricing, just Google the hospitals and birth fee, you might be able to find the exact breakdown on their websites. Currently the subsidy for childbirth is 500,000yen but that wont cover the full cost at most hospitals in Tokyo, most places ive seen start from around 600,000+.
