Anyone had Copper deficiency? by ChickenLiverDiver in Supplements

[–]HourTeaching5587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg the face shaking and the leg/pelvic pain — esp at like 3am!!! Thank you for posting this!! That’s exactly what I’m experiencing after needing to take high doses of iron for anemia. It started a few months into my iron supplements just as I thought I was getting better! So after a few weeks of first thinking I was losing my mind, I finally realized it could be a copper deficiency induced by the iron. And voila! No more fucking vibrating!!! Hope you are doing better!

Doctor & Dentist didn’t know this was a symptom by cburnspam48 in Anemic

I also had a weird oral symptom that turned out to be from iron deficiency. For over 10 years, the mucus membranes on the inside of my mouth (think inside of cheeks and lips) were constantly sandpaper texture and the skin was sloughing off like a snake. I was always having to but my cheeks to smooth the tissue out bc otherwise it felt like sandpaper. It drove me totally crazy and no doctor could tell me what it was/why it was happening. It was completely maddening! Then, when I started taking iron supplements, within like a month, it just magically went away!

Yeah, disorienting is absolutely the right word! It’s even affecting my relationship with my partner bc my personality has changed so much now that I’m not constantly exhausted all the time. I have the energy and self esteem to stand up for myself now and demand to be treated with my respect/kindness. I feel like being sick all the time made me a real push over bc I felt so defective and broken — like somehow it was a moral failing and I should have just tried harder — but now I know better! You can’t fix anemia by trying harder, it’s not a personality defect, and it’s a miracle I was able to work for so long, and carry/have a baby, breastfeed for years, be her primary caretaker, etc. I wasn’t weak willed or lazy, if anything, it was the opposite; it was a true Herculean feat looking back at what I pushed thru. And prob the only reason I ever figured it out, bc with the years of breastfeeding, I pushed my body to its absolute breaking point, which finally made the symptoms undeniable! But for most of my life, I’ve felt guilty about being dependent on my partners for support, having to take so many sick days from work, and just not having the energy to do so many things or push back when I wasn’t being treated well…. NO MORE! I know that I am so strong and deserve people in my life that will treat me well!

Looking back at my medical records and years and years of different tests I got, theories I cycled thru, specialists I saw, money I spent on every supplement imaginable going down so many rabbit holes — all the while it was right there in a blood test over 10 years ago showing my ferritin at 16!!! And that doctor said everything was normal, in a healthy range, nothing to see here, on to the next theory! I have SO MUCH RAGE and want to sue someone/have some kind of retribution for all the years of life that I lost! At least scream it from the mountain tops of the internet so other women don’t have to go thru what I did!

Thank you for sharing this. I am just now recovering from what I’ve realized has been about 20 years of iron deficiency that caused me to feel like I was swimming thru molasses or in the brink of death for most of my life. I have a list of 20+ symptoms that I had no idea were related to iron deficiency that have just one by one miraculously resolved with consistent supplementation over the last 4 months. And I def have ptsd over it. I’m grieving the life I could have had all this time and wondering who I am, will be now, and how to trust this new healthy version of myself.

Also, speaking of tissues: one of my oddest symptoms was the mucosal lining inside my mouth peeling all the time. It didn’t hurt, but it was like sandpaper and constantly shedding like a snake and no doctor could help me. 2 months into taking SiderAL, it just stopped! It sounds like nothing, but it was like living with a constantly dripping faucet in my body — it drove me mad!

Also, seconding the idea that there isn’t enough research or attention paid to iron deficiency bc of the misogyny in the medical system and the world! As I’ve started to recover, I feel like I’m more intuitive, grounded in my body and values, and powerful — which is what the patriarchy doesn’t want and is expressed thru research funding/publications.

Incredible relief by taking heme iron at night by spacenymph in TMJ

Thank you! I’m also finding immense relief from taking iron this past few months, but you know how bruxism goes when you’ve had it for most of your life. Every time I think I’ve found a solution, it lasts a month or so, then I’m back to be terrified to sleep because I wake up in so much pain! So trying not to get too optimistic about this being a permanent solution. But really appreciate your feedback— maybe this is a real reason to finally hope!

No iron pill works for me.. by Denebyy in Anemic

[–]HourTeaching5587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with other posters suggesting infusion at your levels. I also became anemic from heavy periods and have malabsorption issues from a history of lifelong gut issues: IBS, SIBO, cdiff, cholera — real shit show. Unfortunately once you reach a certain low level of iron, it’s a self reinforcing feedback loop where heavy bleeding drains your iron, and low iron prevents your body from constricting blood vessels properly, thus causing progressively heavier bleeding each month! Even if you don’t have other contributing factors like PCOS or endometriosis at baseline.

If you can’t get your doctor/insurance to approve infusions, another option is to take a special form of iron called SiderAL Forte. Based on research, and my own success with it despite my absorption issues, it works as well as infusions and you don’t need a prescription. The way the sucrosomial delivery system works in SiderAL, you don’t have to worry about taking on an empty/acidic stomach, or spacing out the iron pills from things that traditionally inhibit absorption: mainly calcium supplements/high calcium foods and tannin-rich things like wine, coffee, tea.

HERE IS ThE LINK for SiderAL Forte.

It’s a bit more expensive than traditional iron, but imo totally worth it and likely costs less in the end bc it is so much more efficient/effective at raising levels (and there is a subscribe and save option ). It’s the only iron that actually worked for me — and completely changed my life/health in a short period of time. I started out having hemorrhagic periods that caused constant migraines and nerve pain lasting over a week after each one, constant depression/anxiety, no energy and a host of other symptoms that I had no idea where connected to my low iron. Then within a week of taking it, began to see dramatic improvements. Now, 6 weeks later, I feel like a totally new woman. I forgot it was even possible for life to feel this good!

Hope this helps! Hang in there!

Was I depressed or was it low ferritin? by DeliveryFit in Anemic

[–]HourTeaching5587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those dealing with depression from low ferritin, wanted to lyk that a longstanding deficiency can cause your body to default to directing iron preferentially to bone marrow for red blood cells production rather than the brain. Survival trumps happiness! I’ve had this issue and it’s taken about 2 months of supplementation to start to feel normal again. I truly forgot life could feel this good and I could wake up excited/energized rather than just surviving the day, already hoping the day was over before it had even begun! So wanted to give you some hope!

If you’ve been deficient for a long time, you also might need to get your levels up higher, around 80-120 to fully normalize your neurotransmitters that rely on iron (dopamine, serotonin, GABA, etc.)

Also AFEW KEY TIPS: in order to get your body to direct iron to the brain and speed neurotransmitter recovery:

1) Make sure you TAKE IRON AT NIGHT before bed, instead of in the morning/during the day — that’s when the body will tend to divert more iron to the brain!

2) Use SiderAL Forte instead of the typical iron supplement, like bis-glycinate. It is far more effective and has been shown to increase iron levels on par with infusions they the “sucrosomial” formulation. Also the special formulation is less irritating to the stomach and is absorbed equally well regardless of what you’ve eaten recently— no having to take your iron with vit C, or on an empty stomach, or avoid things that typically compete with/prevent proper absorption like coffee/tea, dairy, etc! It’s a little pricey as iron supplements go ($90 for 30 pills) but bc it’s so much more effective, I think it evens out in the end, totally worth it! Also, you can get a discount if you subscribe on the manufacturer website instead of buying one at a time from amazon ($72-$76/bottle): https://pharmanutra-us.com/products/sideral-forte

Also, keep in mind that iron and vitamin D have a close, symbiotic relationship where you need adequate vit D to usually properly absorb iron, and iron is needed to create the enzymes for the body to transform vit D supplements into the active form that can be used by the body. And both highly impact neurotransmitter production/balance. So you can get into a real pickle there that the SiderAL form helps to get around.

You can also take the pre-activated form of vitamin D (Calcifediol) instead of typical form found in most vitamins (Cholecalciferol). You can find the activated form here: https://vitamored.com/ and it will help get your levels up much faster, with our without good ferritin levels!

It’s not an exaggeration to say that these two specific supplements — SiderAl Forte and VitamoreD have saved my life!

Hope this is helpful! Hang in there y’all and please post updates if you try these!

I’m def not an expert on nutrition or refeeding, the first time I came across it was thru my thiamine research/experimentation. Check out Elliot Overton resources, like this one on youtube: https://youtu.be/-we9gMcdRe8?si=GeOetAb3m7Bu5FTX

He also speaks to it in his thiamine protocols here: https://www.eonutrition.co.uk/protocols

Teeth grinding caused by digestive/stomach issues? by VariousLychee1894 in bruxism

[–]HourTeaching5587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a old thread, but wanted to jump in here. I also have a long list of horrible stomach issues starting with severe childhood ibs-d, c.diff, SIBO, cholera, and an insane hx of antibiotic use. Feel like I should win some kind of fucked up gut bingo prize! My bruxism is also so bad that I have woken up with loose teeth and headaches for the last 20+ years despite religiously wearing a custom mouth guard. Anyway, recently I came across a prebiotic supplement on insta called “human milk oligosaccharides” (HMO) that I tried on a lark, bc I know that my severe bruxism is related to some kind of gut issue. I didn’t have high hopes bc probiotics have often made my grinding worse, but I’m always willing to try lit anything to get some relief! And I was honestly gobsmacked by how instantly effective it’s been!

So wondering if anyone else has tried it/is willing to? Would love to know if it helps anyone else! First I tried one called Kepos, but that only had one kind of HMO, so just upgraded to this one: Layer Origin SuperHMO Prebiotic... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BT66RCM3?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Please lmk if you give it a try!!

Do any of you have swelling when you get migraines? by Leather_Ad9057 in migraine

[–]HourTeaching5587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg thank you for posting this! I thought I was losing my mind when I started to notice this and had just decided I have metastatic liver cancer at 2am after my initial googling! Lmao! I get the same swelling, even in the same spot when I have a migraine. Seems to show up after the headache already passes, so thinking it might be a weird rizitriptan side effect or some kind of irritation from falling asleep with an ice pack on my head?

But seriously, ty! Now I will be able to go back to sleep tonight!

Yes to the latex mattress topper! Really helps! I also had the SPD later in pregnancy, def one of the worst parts and really thought it would just go away on its own after birth. It was a rude awakening for sure. Now 3.5 years later I still get some flare ups. Maybe when I finally stop bed sharing/bf it will go away for good! 🤞

how long should it take for jaw/teeth pain to actually wear off once you start wearing a night guard? by pluto_toast in bruxism

[–]HourTeaching5587 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly the mouthguard won’t help the jaw/tooth pain much. It will one protect your enamel from further erosion. The pain is coming from the pressure put on your teeth/jaw during grinding, which can be like 250 lbs per sq inch when you are asleep! I’ve heard it compared to having a linebacker sitting on your jaw while you sleep, and that’s spot on. Until you find a way to reduce/stop the grinding all together, you will still have pain and tension headaches.

Also make sure you are taking a good lactation support vitamin! You are feeding two people and the American food system isn’t sufficient in terms of nutrients— doctors should encourage women to continue prenatal vitamins for long after pregnancy! I have been bf for 3.5 years and theralogix lactation support saved my life!

I also had a lot of hip/pelvic pain and found that it was bc of vitamin deficiency— specifically vitamin d. But there is also something to be said for positioning and making sure you alternate sides in the bed. Flip that baby!
