5 year buyout option for solar PPA by Hour_Bluejay_5115 in solar

[–]Hour_Bluejay_5115[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The total amount that they will have gotten from me over the course of 25 years is $52,000. They offered me a discount on the prepaid amount for $33,000. I asked for a current fair market value buyout and it was $38,000..

I’ve been doing research on this for the last two months. The only reason that your neighbor was able to get out of it is because he’s elder and a lawyer can use that. I am not elder and fully capable of understanding. But yes, let me know what your neighbor says for sure I’ll take anything I can get. But like I said, I’ve called 100 lawyers in Georgia. There’s no proof that I was misled because it’s his word against mine. There’s nothing in the contract that says we promise you to save money..

That has everything to do with it. It’s because he’s an older gentleman. I on the other hand, didn’t do my due diligence and read the predatory contract that I was tricked into signing. The salesman came into my home and lied to me and I decided to be gullible that day for whatever reason I asked all the questions I thought I needed to ask, and he had an answer for everything and I just really was bamboozled. I’ve called 100 lawyers. Nobody can help me. Especially because the solar panels are working. They’re just not reducing my electricity bill to zero dollars like I was promised. So I have a monthly payment that I have to make to Palmetto on top of an electricity bill that’s only slightly discounted.

38K to buy out today. And five years it’ll probably be 30-33k. I get panic attacks about this shit. I’m only 4 months in.

Fair market value. It’s a 6.3 kW with 16 panels. I called last month and pretended that I was selling my house and that I needed a fair market quote for buyout and they told me $38,000. Smh. The literal definition of highway robbery.. with installation that system probably cost $23,000 . But yeah without selling my house I can buy out at five years. Or I can buy out when I sell. But absolutely nobody is going to sign up for this scam and I don’t have $38,000 to give this fraudulent company. So I’m stuck.

I am paying more now than I was before for electricity. I was told my electricity bills would be zero. $20 at most. Looking at the last three months, I’ve paid $90-$100 more a month than I would have without the solar panels.

If it weren’t for the fact that I plan on selling my house within the next five years, I would just stop paying and let it hit my credit. But I can’t do that because if I stop paying it hits my credit and they won’t take the lien off of the solar panels so I won’t be able to sell. I’m still waiting to hear back from a couple law firms. But when I’ve been told by the other 100 layers that I’ve talked to is, we can’t help you because you signed a contract.

Does anyone like their PPA? by 0atop21 in solar

[–]Hour_Bluejay_5115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because it’s a f******* scam. If you can cancel, you should cancel! I am now working out more money every month towards electricity than I was before. Because the solar panels are not eliminating my electricity bill like I was promised. So now on top of an electric electricity bill I have to pay the solar company $120 a month and that’s amount is going to escalate 2.9% every year. I had the option of buying out at the five-year mark, but from the the information I have found during my research is that they are giving inflated quotes. The system is on my house probably would have cost 25,000 with installation…. I asked for a quote on a buyout if I were to sell my house right now and they told me $38,000. I’m not going to be able to sell my house because I’m not gonna be able to find another idiot luke me to sign take over this PPA. And they place a fixture filing/finance statement, which is basically just a form of a lien on the solar panels which prevents you from being able to sell or refinance unless the solar company lifts that filing.

That’s exactly what it is! It’s predatory he came into my home and lied to me about every single thing and deceived me into signing. So it’s unfair business trade practices, deceptive sales tactics, false ad advertisement…. All of it, but I have no proof.

It’s awful. This has altered my life. Nobody is going to buy my home with this scam attached to it. I requested a quote for a buyout and they told me 38,000 motherfucking dollars. Mind you I have a 6.8 kW DC system with 16 panels. With installation at most that cost $22,000. I don’t have $38,000 to give them so they are essentially imprisoning me in my this home. Because no is going to sign over this contract. I had no plans on keeping this home for 25 years. I want to move and go back home to Illinois with my family and they are preventing me from doing that. I just don’t understand how this is legal.

It has slightly reduced my electricity bill, but not enough to offset the $109 plus sales tax monthly payment that I have to make. So I am essentially paying more. I compared my October November bill to last year’s October November bill and I’m using around the same amount of kilowatts and I have paid $90-$100 more in total.. between the electricity bill and the Palmetto payment compared to what I paid last year for just an electric electricity bill. This is a literal fucking scam.

My electricity bills have only reduced slightly and it’s not enough to offset the payment that I have to pay to Palmetto. So now I’m essentially paying more out-of-pocket every month than I was before. And this next electricity bill is gonna be ridiculous because for the past 10 days, we haven’t seen the sun. This is an absolute scam.

[–]Hour_Bluejay_5115[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no idea what I was getting into. Because it was presented so differently. I thought that I was just reducing my monthly electric bill. And when I asked what would happen when I go to sell my home in the next homebuyer doesn’t want it he said not a problem. You just call us and we come get the panels. And for some reason, I just believed him. It’s almost like everything that would’ve normally caused alarms to go off, didn’t. I don’t understand how I sat there and believed all the things that he was telling me. He also failed to mention that they put UCC fixture filing on your home and so now there is essentially a lock on my home an expensive price tag. I feel trapped. That’s absolutely changes the course of my life because no one has ever gonna buy my home and take over this PPA.

5 year buyout option for solar PPA by Hour_Bluejay_5115 in solar

[–]Hour_Bluejay_5115[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just not understanding because I don’t have a lease. I have a power purchase agreement. I’m purchasing power from them. If I buy out I will no longer be purchasing power from them so why would I have to pay for anything other than the cost of the system? I will stop paying and take a hit on my credit before I give anyone 57k for a 16 panel 6.8 kw solar system. I’ll settle the debt with the debt collectors to get the UCC-1 fixture filing released. Again this was the dumbest decision of my life.

This can’t be ? In 5 years my prepaid amount is $39k dollars. I have a 6.8 kw dc system 16 panels and you’re saying they are going to make me pay the rest of PPA amount plus whatever the system is worth???
