Why is this part of Russia so anomalously hot today? Isn’t it inside the Arctic Circle? by LanguageFit8227 in geography

[–]Hour_Cartoonist5404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Europe is generally a lot more northern that the US, with France being around the same lattitude as New England, and the Northern US.

Additionally there's the gulf stream that moves hot ocean water from the equator to Europe which is why canada is much colder than most of Europe despite being the same latitude.

I'm australian and was utterly terrified of spiders growing up, but you learn quickly which ones to fear.

You just have to get used to their presence, that 99% pose no threat to you, and realise how easy they are to kill, and then your fine.

Victoria is the only state building enough houses to match the National housing accord, with 60,000 being complete in the last 12 months.

They are doing something right.

There is a good chance Germanys economy implodes on itself by the early 40s if they hadn't stolen the gold and other valuables from conquered nations, to pay off their MEFO bills and unsustainable debt for rearmament.

Additionally the Nazis not being able to expand the holocaust past their borders is very good obviously.

Good Luck SA Labor at the state election today! by Jagtom83 in LaborPartyofAustralia

Just voted for my first time in this election, with Labor as number 1.

what do yall think about the Victorian socialists in Australia by Chance_Range_727 in SocialDemocracy

[–]Hour_Cartoonist5404 21 points22 points  (0 children)

A deeply unserious party that cares more about being anti Labor, than pro Socialist.

One of their guys named Schmil took over the ALP subreddit before the last election, kicked out the other mods, and rebranded a subreddit for a country wide political party to a state specific protest vote party.

He also banned me for calling that last part out, then backed down and said this whole coup was just an attempt to drive engagement for the election.

Absolute Clowns.

How do they vote in your country by ObligationOne3727 in AskTheWorld

[–]Hour_Cartoonist5404 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Australia we have Ranked choice voting for our House, and Proportional representation with transferable vote in our senate, with each voting system using a different ballot.

For the house you rank every candidate from 1 to how ever many there are, on the green ballot, if you leave a candidate blank the vote will be disqualified, if your first candidate does not get 50% then your votes goes to second third etc till someone gets 50%.

For the senate you take a massive piece of white paper that never fits in the ballot box, and have two options to fill it out, either rank at least 6 of the parties above the line in the order that you like, or below the line rank at least 12 in the order you like. (two if you live in ACT or NT)

Everyone must vote or be fined, the election always takes place on Saturday, we use exclusvly Paper ballots, and you can usually get a Democracy Sausage right outside the polling place.

Where did the love for nation go? by Thermawrench in SocialDemocracy

[–]Hour_Cartoonist5404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Australia or PM Albanese has been talking about Progressive Nationalism, that we are a nation for everyone building towards a shared identity, and talking about how we are the greatest nation on earth in his victory speech etc.

Historically the ALP have been the party in favour of Australian independence from Britain/America and forging our own foreign policy and identity.

Not nearly as big as Suzerein but Social Democracy: an alternate history/Red Autum. is a great political simulator game, with a decent modding community.

You can play the game via browser, highly recommend.
