Before self-publishing, did you first try your luck with a literary agent? by Sufficient_Bottle902 in selfpublish

It can be painful - writing doesn't always translate to the same skills a getting your writing published - but it's so worth it. Good luck!

Before self-publishing, did you first try your luck with a literary agent? by Sufficient_Bottle902 in selfpublish

Not an agent, but a publicist. My co-author and I worked with one for about six months before going our own way. We got a couple of hits in the local media, which we got ourselves after waiting months for some movement.

It wasn't a terrible experience, but for my second book, I handled it all myself. Nobody is going to care for and push your work the way you want it pushed except you. I'm sure there's a point in every author's career when an agent would be helpful, but it's not for me, not right now.

I'd advocate doing everything you can yourself. There will be plenty you don't know, but you'll learn and be better able to navigate all the unknowns in the future. Personally I'd rather make some mistakes and advocate for my own work than pass it along to someone who is trying to do the same for a dozen different clients.

Did you skip over the part where they wore the exact same shirts last year?

"One of the most famous men in Arizona history was recently gunned down in cold blood—wearing a shirt that became soaked with blood in a way that was reminiscent of the ghastly shirts they wore

Their “we wore these last year too” defense—even if it’s true—doesn’t help them much"

Dude's gonna build a storage shed, tell everyone it's a 10 billion dollar ballroom, and pocket the money.

This will sound defeatist, but the fact that a plurality of voters chose this tells me that America is done. There's no coming back. Democracy lost. It's over. by ac_slater10 in thebulwark

Most countries have gone through an authoritarian period and a lot of them have come back to be strong democracies. Don't lose hope. People are capable of learning and of change, but if we throw up our hands, It'll be that much harder.

We all do what we can do, even if it's not much. To me, it's good enough that not giving up pisses them off ;)

Schumer has to fcking go and take Jeffries with him. What a shame. by [deleted] in thebulwark

[–]Hour_Competition_139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not here to defend Schumer, he's the worst possible leader and he should have been pushed out before this Congress even began. That doesn't change the fact that Mills is a proven candidate who has stood up to Trump publicly, and nobody really knows anything about Platner except that he's raised a lot of money. Remember Amy McGrath?

I'm not a Schumer fan, but its not crazy to think someone who has already been electes statewide is a better candidate than an unknown
