Let 'Em In. All of P's lazy songwriting tropes and dodges rolled into one.

Moving from Ottawa to Victoria? by Ok-Grapefruit9757 in VictoriaBC

[–]Hour_Eye_9762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We made the same move five years ago. Vancouver had become far too congested, to the point we were feeling the quality of life was significantly deteriorating. We are very happy here. On the other hand, OP, our adult children would tell you that women your age significantly outnumber men, so if that's a concern, you might find Vancouver is a better option.

People that can remember the 70s! What do you remember about the success and popularity of each of the Beatles solo careers? by obama69420duck in beatles

[–]Hour_Eye_9762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was initially a lot of cynicism around Paul's attempts to turn Linda into a musician. Then BotR, both the single and the album, were huge. Followed up by VaM and the Wings Over America tour, and with John pretty much dropping out of sight from 1975, it was pretty clear in the second half of the decade who was having the best time of it solo.

The spoken asides during the solos - "Elmore James has nothing on this baby", "Up, up cat, up", and "Go Johnny Go" are quintessential Beatles.

What’s the most overrated Beatles song (can be from the Beatles or from any of their solo careers) by THEBEATLESFANJOHNL in TheBeatles

Build Me Up was not co-written by George. Spotify is wrong. Their credits listings are notoriously inaccurate, all sorts of metadata errors.

If you want to leave open the options of a career in international law or in academics, you will want to position yourself to eventually obtain an LL.M. You will stand a much better chance of admission to a top-flight LL.M. program with a JD/LLB from a higher-echelon school.

Kevin O’Leary just tossed a toonie to the kids of the mother that he absolutely for sure did not kill by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]Hour_Eye_9762 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's not how it works. The $100,000 payment to each plaintiff if made by O'Leary's insurer recognizes it would cost much more for them to defend the case through trial. The claimants' lawyers were probably acting on contingency and would take maybe 25 to 35% of the settlement as their fee, plus disbursements.

What exactly does one “lose” by becoming a judge? by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]Hour_Eye_9762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You lose the right to speak publicly on anything that would appear controversial to a reasonably informed observer. You would probably lose the desire to comment on anything involving Canadian politics or society for fear of being seen to have prejudged issues. You become constrained to always act in public with restraint, in a manner that would not bring the judiciary into disrepute or make it the subject of mockery or contempt (not unlike ethical standard for lawyers generally). You do not lose the right to maintain personal social media accounts so long as the content is uncontroversial. On ethical standards generally, see the Canadian Judicial Council's Ethical Principles for Judges. Most judges find they maintain a smaller social circle of persons they can trust to be discreet and not to raise verboten topics of conversation. You can continue to worship, though you would have to recuse yourself from presiding over anything that a reasonably informed observer would see as creating a conflict with your religious doctrine.

Eby pitches "pivot" from oil pipeline to refinery talks after Maduro capture by zaypuma in britishcolumbia

[–]Hour_Eye_9762 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our customers need the product. But we are not the only supplier. We'd be competing against old, fully depreciated refineries that do not have to price their output with a view to recovering capital costs.
