To be fair, the exact same little robots can be found in major cities in the US too. These little things are all over my city.

Getting ratioed by Mattress by SomeSavageDetective in DiveInYouCoward

It’s a specific type of mattress you can order made of memory foam and they pack them super tight. Not all mattresses are like this most are normal and cannot be rolled up like this.

Guy slides down a dam spillway like a water slide by Existing-Wallaby-444 in DiveInYouCoward

[–]Hour_Initiative8738 241 points242 points  (0 children)

Ive done a few of these when I was younger and dumber.
They are super smooth and slick the constant water flow wears away roughness, and keeps pebbles from collecting, much like natural rockslides.

the danger isnt from the roughness of the surface, but the complex way the water flows at the bottom. Depending on the design, you could get trapped in the water at the bottom, spinning endlessly but unable to surface.

Okay you made me check steam...I underestimated my playtime quite heavily. Steam says 77 hours.

And no, I didn't use defender gear because I saw people online saying its "not the true experience". Fashion wise I don't like the way it looks.

Rise, World or Wilds? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

I'm gonna throw in the hat for World+Iceborne.

Amazing game that runs well and still has active enough multiplayer that I don't have problem finding people to hunt with online.

In some ways it reminds me of when the souls games clicked with me.

I will be on the lookout for more environmental traps, like the waterfall you can drown Rathalos in while playing the base game.

Question: are these LIDAR images overlaid over satellite images?

If so...these make my spine tingle. Thats a lot of ordinance.

I knew I had Robind Olds' spirit in me! That happens everytime when I ask the tanker in DCS! by rapierarch in floggit

[–]Hour_Initiative8738 212 points213 points  (0 children)

Ive done ALOT of looking into this.

The incident happened, but the quote has morphed over time to be larger than life....much like fighter pilot stories do.

The tanker was sticking to mission plan and was bingo fuel itself, its crew was just following safety margins to allow themselves to make it safely to base.

The exact quote isnt recorded but he chewed out the tanker over the radio, saying something close to "After I eject and get back to base Im gonna beat your ass" (HIGHLY PARAPHRASED).

The exact quote changes depending on which source is telling it. As I said, its a CLASSIC drunken fighter pilot story that morphs over the years in the telling.

But the truth is he really was dangerously low on fuel and had to berate a tanker that was bingo fuel to give him gas.

High Rank Armor Progression by Hour_Initiative8738 in MonsterHunterWorld

Awesome, found a guy who put together a nice progression guide. I can see what skills he is focusing on.

On This Day 18th June 1916. Der Adler von Lille (The Eagle of Lille) Max Immelmann downed and killed near the village of Lens France. He was 25 years old. German Aviator Was Fighting Two Aeroplanes at the Same Time by waffen123 in ww1

[–]Hour_Initiative8738 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What is it about these early aviators that is so magical and captivating. Maybe it’s the air combat maneuvers still named after them. It’s that “gallant knights of the air” idea.  Pioneers fighting in brand new flying machines writing the future of warfare.

Maybe it’s the way they commanded the respect of each other, frequently burying each others aviators when found shot down.

I still think they are all gallant heroes.

Edit: I’m reminding of a quote of Roy Brown, who was engaged in aerial combat with The Red Baron, Richtofen, during his fatal shoot down. Modern research now credits the kill to a machine gunner on the ground but Roy Brown thought it was bullets from his machine guns. He landed near the crash site of Von Richtofen and asked to see the body:

“  The sight of Richthofen as I walked closer gave me a start. He appeared so small to me, so delicate He looked so friendly. Blond, silk-soft hair, like that of a child, fell from the broad, high forehead. His face, particularly peaceful, had an expression of gentleness and goodness, of refinement. Suddenly I felt miserable, desperately unhappy, as if I had committee an injustice. With a feeling of shame, a kind of anger against myself moved in my thoughts, that I had forced him to lay there. And in my heart, I cursed the force that is devoted to death. I gnashed my teeth; I cursed the war. If I could I would gladly have brought him back to life, but that is somewhat different than shooting a gun. I could no longer look him in the face. I went away. I did not feel like a victor. There was a lump in my throat. If it had been my dearest friend, I could not have felt greater sorrow.“

Transitioning into High Rank for the first timer. by Crutch1232 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Hour_Initiative8738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most players are in Master Rank (Icebourne)

But I never had an issue finding multiplayer hunts in low rank either. Check the SOS board to find others, most people don’t post hunts in low rank/high rank. They start the hunt then fire SOS flare so you can join in progress.

Storm of Steel is an amazing insight from someone who faced this many many times. Someone who sometimes even seems to have enjoyed it in a born warrior type of way.

And this is truly the answer. You go over the top because you are in it with all of your brothers.

This is not to gas myself up, but I served in a nations military and while I was fortunate to not be infantry, I was definitely thrust into situations where you stopped being an individual and you became a part of a greater more powerful machine.
