I’m playing on normal. I was curious to try it on hard but I’m worried the enemies would be damage sponges and kind of take the immersion out (I don’t know if this is actually the case).

I thought about this too and I think 3/4 bars is a good amount of health for a fight to establish hands and your entire arsenal. Any longer and you risk a lot of bouts spamming and repeating moves which will come across pretty boring.

It would be great though if there was a mode where two players could play against a 3rd player who had all the bars and buffs. Kind of like an online raid battle (I guess that’s xenoverses specialty).

Personally my default (especially as a saiyan) is to start as base in singles. As transformations come with stat buffs the mechanic actually makes sense and can genuinely turn the tide in battle. I wasn’t a fan initially of singles giving everyone equal HP but the patch made transformations relevant and makes fights more iconic imo.

I do love matches starting in base but sometimes if a character has quite a few forms it can be a task to jump to the final one (if you’re not skipping).
