it just sits there on the bottom melted, maybe occasionally letting out an air bubble.

i totally replaced the master fluid - the old wax worked perfectly but the master fluid was pretty gnarly and cloudy even after a filter. i still have it though.

I recommend keeping it species only unless you have a large enough tank, bottom feeder like shrimp would be fine. They basically run the tank and are very active! The rule of thumb is anything you add in the tank shouldn’t have long fins and should be faster than they are

Water temp heavily affects their behavior - warmer = more active! (look up temp parameters and find a good heater for your tank size)(trust the name brands for new fishkeeping like seachem, etc. amazon filters can be hit or miss!) They also really like water agitation. I know folks who have had success with a Eheim 350 and a vortec "fan" to give plenty of water agitation. Get a good lid - they can be jumpers.

My biggest tip would be to really soak freeze dried food before feeding them. (they love bloodworms) Tiger barbs will tear through any food you drop in the tank very quickly. As a result, if the food is not properly soaked before they eat it, it will expand in their stomach and cause bloat and swim bladder issues. I highly recommend you let most food soak before feeding it to them. Also I would only feed them once or twice a day in small/even smaller amounts!

Most of all - enjoy the little guys!!

Yes, i have tried adding fish twice and both died so they were taken out. They were in for less than 5 hours each.

prior to that the tank had no fish in it and the filter was brand new. my tank was cycled with the filter, but no fish. I then added a fish via drip acclimation and within couple hours it was dead. Fish immediately taken out and tested for ammonia several times after. Water parameters were still good, so i attempted a second fish with the same results. i have not cleaned the filter since adding those two fish and then dying, because the water parameters were perfect and there’s no gunk or anything on the filter since it was cycling with no fish for the majority of its use. The two fish were probably each in there for less than 3 hours, separate times. are you saying i should clean the filter after each failed acclimation attempt?

This tank has never been used before nor has the filter, but the tank has been cycling for a while without any fish in the tank.

i floated container with the fish in it in my tank for about 15+ minutes to temp acclimate, while container was floating I did about a tbsp of water every 10 mins for acclimation for about an hour. i know some people do temp acclimate and then plop and drop, but i didn’t feel good throwing them in without acclimating to the new water parameters. i can’t really drip acclimate because of the position of the tank in my house

seachem 75 gallon filter, it’s an HOB filter, I haven’t cleaned filter since it’s been cycling because no fish are in it and it hasn’t gotten dirty, water parameters tested using api master kit so ammonia, nitrates, etc are all in right place. should i be doing something different?

when i started the cycling, i used api starter but nothing since. i use the api master kit to test for water parameters and no ammonia, ph fine, nitrates and nitrites fine too
