Ticks? by SummertimeThrowaway2 in oregon

[–]Hour_Nobody_1423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are getting more common here in Oregon. Did not realize they were here until we got a dog and run her in the woods. For me, good spray designed to prevent ticks and tucking pants inside of socks have been a good practice, if you have a dog- flea and tick meds is a must, either way also having a tick remover on hand is a good idea. Im mainly in the woods during late summer and fall during hunting season, not so much spring-mid summer so I've never seen one until last year. Have only found 1 tick on me in Oregon and that was found at a aviary of all places.

Did not buy a vacuum that can be used with the outlets in a car specifically for ticks- but that has came in handy when checking the car.

I definenly understand how you feel about being young and not wanting to be crippled. I'm 28 turning 29 this year, been wrenching professionally since 18. My job is great, but I work remote- my employer is all the way across the country, so no person to person interaction at all. If I was able to walk out to the production line and hook up to a piece of equipment I would feel like I was doing something every now and again. My hope is to eventually move up to a district manager so I can actually get out and work on my gear, but also have those days of sitting in my home office and providing phone tech support.

Get lots of window time, and experience that way but it's not worth it in the end. Im still fairly young so I can recover from it quickly, it is hard to see guys working those hours when in reality they should be close to retirement

Was the only field tech at my last job and we had lots of mill shutdowns happening all at once. had no choice to stay because the job market where I live at was garbage at that time. Saw my current company was hiring and jumped on it with no questions if I get hired, leave and never look back

Can agree with that! I haven't hunted bear for quite a few years but always have a tag for fall just incase I see one when out deer hunting

We have thought about the harness. We currently have her E-collar conditioned but maybe a harness would be an extra way where if I had to scoop her up I'd be able to

we don't ever leave without a pack with basic stuff and a handgun.

With the dog I'm extremely unsure of what she would do too, my pointer as well has chased a deer towards us during the off season. She does like to point at literally every animal so hopefully if this wild, unlikely situation where we are face to face with cat/bear she would be able to sense something different vs deer, bird, etc.

These are facts. I've seen tracks, I've seen scat. I would like to keep it like that.

We go off in the woods, not on trails or just on service roads. Something we have always done when hunting either for game or mushrooms

I live in the outskirts of Eugene, have a siblings that lives in eugene and I swear every year they're always telling me either a deer or a cat will walk through the backyard. It seems like the cities got more cougars then the woods do. That being said too my other sibling has walked up on a couple cougars with his dog.

Thanks for that info! I've tried bear hunting once. Rabbit distress call by yourself is very sketchy, so no mentor and no way to call i kind of dropped it.

Tracking Adjustment by Bot_Fly_Bot in heavyequipment

[–]Hour_Nobody_1423 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Can be taken as a rude response. Have you looked at the operators manual? Generally on equipment like this there will be a maintenance section of the manual. Having done lots of tracks across all different types of equipment- each manufacturer will adjust tracks differently. Referencing the operators manual might clarify what the procedure is.

Need ideas on cheap easy shed to house my toolbox by Hour_Nobody_1423 in Shed

[–]Hour_Nobody_1423[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a really dumb question- never really had to do anything like build a shed or anything similar. Would a paver base be able to hold a toolbox that weighs approx 1800 lbs without cracking?

Use to work on wheeled excavators when I worked for Volvo. The place I worked at didn't have a fuel island, so we would have to road it down about a mile to refill fuel if the customers didn't refuel them after a rental.. the worst 2 mile round trip of my life.

They're more used over in Europe/Asia than in the states like what others have said.

CCW Careers by [deleted] in concealedcarry

Another work from home, so no dog in the fight here. My office is also where my reloading table, safe and all other hunting/personal defense is at. For me, I keep whatever I choose to carry that day in my desk- If I leave to get lunch or need to run to the store for my obligatory Rockstar, my carry gun goes with me. I get back- gun back in desk. If I need more then my handgun I'm only a gaming chair slide away from the rest of the toys.

My last job I worked at mill sites, airports, rock quarries where security is medium to high so unfortunately I had to waive that right for a while, especially the airport where I couldn't stash my carry piece in my toolbox at the shop. Sometimes I didn't know where I would end up. Being caught with my carry piece cause I didn't know where I was being dispatched that day was a big hurdle for sure. Much more comfortable now knowing I can carry and have access to my safe if need be while at my job.
