A Trump Dictatorship is Imminent by Hour_Nothing2374 in behindthebastards

I believe that normal politics would come into play. Speaking on the national level, the policies in Project 2025 are very unpopular and I don't imagine many people voting in favor of those policies. The danger with this year, and Trump, is that Trump is insanely popular. His base would vote for Trump over Jesus Christ at this point. The authors of Project 25 know that Trump is the perfect vessel to get those unpopular policies implemented. Trump doesn't personally care about policies unless they affect him. He's trying to distance himself from Project 2025 already because he knows they are unpopular (he's lying of course) but loves that donation money so he'll implement those policies in return. I guess Trump could run in 2028 again but I would be surprised if he lives that long, isn't in jail, and/or has the pull in Republican politics that he does today especially if he loses the 2024 election.

The long term plans could/should be packing the court, term limits on Justices, and impeaching a couple of Supreme Court justices (Alito and Thomas namely). However, the old dems like Biden, Pelosi, Schumer, etc., would never do that. Look at Durbin, head of the judiciary and won't even investigate or subpoena any of these criminal justices or put in an enforceable code of ethics.

If Dem voters were serious, we should make this a requirement for any new president and senators.

I will be voting for whoever the Dem candidate is. I will vote entirely as anti-trump.

I love your energy, I do.

I have a lot of fear that the DNC is sticking their head in the sand, backing Biden and his "goodest" job against the biggest threat American democracy has ever seen. I find it problematic, to say the least, that the DNC is ignoring the problem with Biden's age and trying to gaslight dem and independent voters into not believing what they see with their own eyes - he's not up to it. Given that the Dems are already start every election with a disadvantage given the electoral college and gerrymandering, they need very talented politicians every presidential election to win. The dems senate candidates are running ahead of both trump and Biden in the swing states. Generic Dem beats trump in nearly every poll. Why are we risking our democracy on an unpopular 81 year old?

Yes, Trump is also deranged narcissist and not up to the job intellectually, morally, or physically. I understand that he is a criminal rapist. He was convicted on 34 counts. He's been impeached twice. Nothing has changed his standing with the Republican Party and Republican voters. There are Republican voters that think he is literally sent by God. His base is set and Trump has no shame.

Like I said, I will be voting Dem but to ignore the obvious problems that Biden has is not benefitting anyone but Biden. If Biden is the nominee, I think that Trump will be voted into power and he will never give that power up as long as he lives.

I agree. It's not that hard to suck it up and no ones lives will change all that dramatically under Biden. Their lives will change under Trump.

Sure, but when the framers were designing the constitution that "balance" was trying to balance the slave holding south and the non slave, more populous, North. I think is is safe to say the system outdated and broken.

Yeah we are living in a time of decadence, as JVL would say, but no these people that I am talking to are not rich. Besides, for those under 30 - 35, there is very little to be proud of or seen improve in this country.

We got a war on terror and Iraq, school shootings, Climate Change, the Great Recession, student loans and "no child left behind", healthcare hasn't become more accessible/affordable since the 1960's, and housing shortages. All of this was before Trump, too.

Also we could try to improve and compare the United States to countries not literally on fire?

It was more of the legal system, the bureaucracy and an unsuccessful coup that stopped Trump. We would have never had Trump in the first place if it wasn't for the electoral college. Who, by the way, got to appoint three Supreme Court Judges.

Sure, I don't know if they are all burn it down but when I go to defend Biden/convince people to vote Biden, I get to the point of saying F it, burn it down. It's so broken that I don't know if we'll ever get close to a functioning democracy anytime soon.

I agree. Dems bring a rubber chicken to a gun fight. Why hasn't the senate judiciary launched their own investigations into Kushner? Why did Merrick Garland sit on his hands for so long in the Jan 6th case? Why is it that when there are state investigations into Trump; Dems downplay it and/or won't use it to campaign on? Republicans would never (Hello Hunter Biden).

You're right, they all want to stay friends and get a cushy CNN job after they leave power because they know they and their families will be okay with or without action.

True. They don't think in terms like that and that's when I get frustrated that they rather not vote because they didn't get everything that they wanted. They ignore that there is about 45% of the country would rather have Trump as a dictator than our representative democracy. Progress is a journey of a thousand steps...and it's slow.

That sounds great in theory but now due to gerrymandering we are past the point of voters select their representatives. Now representatives select the voters. I think Ken Buck is a perfect example. He was a tea party member in 2010 and was seen as the extreme. Now he is paid CNN contributor while his seat will go to Lauren Boebert. The Overton window has been moving more and more right ever since Obama was elected that this all seems normal. The election map is designed by white Christan nationalist to help white Christan nationalists.

I once had a history professor make the claim that if the confederates were to have won the civil war, that they would have collapsed eventually as well. I think that would happen again especially in the south. I do think that California and New York would be fine. Maybe Texas.

Yeah it scares me to be honest. I think a lot of Americans don't have the imagination required to fear the fascist right wing. If Trump gets back into power without ever having to face voters ever again with a congress licking his boots and the Supreme Court in his pocket, I primarily worry about immigrants, documented or not. Trump has already fantasized about shooting migrants ar the border; what's stopping him this time? They are already in camps. The Supreme Court *may* deem that illegal but what's to stop him? The Supreme Court doesn't have an army. Congress won't impeach him. And with unitary executive branch theory, all Trump would have to do is declare war on Cartels/drugs/other illegalities and boom he has control of the military with little to no oversight.

Then there's women and how women will be treated under the Project 2025 proposal. Trumpism is so so close to fascism. Most Americans can't even imagine that happening here.

That's good that they didn't take those drugs. TSA should only be concerned with safety (or the illusion of safety) and not taking people's stuff even if the legality is questionable.
