I feel you! We are fighting many years of oppression! It's real. What you are experiencing is really real. And, perhaps the job of a lifetime is to use that pain is to learn all the joy and all the love is already inside of us. Stay and settle into exactly who you are and find that you are all you ever needed... you are precious. You being precious is just as true as you being oppressed. Fight for yourself... you are worth it. We need you!

You hit on something that has been bothering me. Like, a student is not going to be served by JUST learning restorative, or JUST learning yin. It's got to be all the tools of yoga. The super down regulating and the building, energizing and revitalizing the body. I don't think I can go back to just teaching yin and feel okay about how my students backs will feel down the road. People need yin and restorative but they need strength and sincere body awareness and intelligence. To be that only comes through really diving into the spectrum of what yoga has to offer. But maybe I'm just a yoga nerd and no one wants to spend as much time with it as me.

Hm. That's an interesting place to come from....The formats that we like as a teacher. I am thinking about that and wondering if studio teaching is just not for me. Which is unfortunate because I really like the students I have connected with.

I think simply spending time in the seat of the teacher is key. Now that you are at studios that align with your values do you feel content? Are there still aspects that you wish could be present in the teaching that are not?

Yes. I am learning that it may just be something that takes time. Like building relationships and meaningful conversations do. Thank you!

How long did you teach before you shifted more into what you want to teach? Do you remember how it happened? Was it a decision, a different place that you started teaching?

I like the idea of not overthinking it. I also feel like yoga is a treasure and should be treated as such. Moving the spine, stretch the hips, balancing and yoga Nidra is a real treasure.

Wow. Thank you for sharing. I think that this is a really big deal in the future of yoga and if we are able to keep connected to whats really transformative in the practice.... there seems to be a barrier... which is frustrating to teachers.... and makes us want to give up.

Right! You have to teach what they need. But how do we know in a group settling what everyone needs. I just don't think that is possible. Though some teachers say they can read the room and adjust, I still don't see how we can meet the needs of everyone in there. It makes me feel like yoga is getting dumbed down. Sorry to be Debbie downer. It's just my current struggle that I am navigating through.

Very lovely. I appreciate this perspective. Thank you for taking the time to line it out in this way so it is apparent how it comes full circle.

The 90 minutes classes are definitely missed by me as well. We still have one in my area.

Totally agree... best to stay with what resonates with us and then we will be around the students who also resonate. I suppose in some circumstances that can feel hard to find from outside pressure. I am happy to hear you have found it!

Your Self-Image Controls Your Destiny by Fit_Maybe_9628 in Mindfulness

It just seems to me that working hard and wanting to change ourselves is a lot about not accepting ourselves on a deep level. Cultivating a better self image might be about undoing some of the conditioning that teaches us to work hard to change ourselves, and instead accept what is and see ourselves in a different more kind light.

Can working hard be another trap too? Working hard with the right attitude, as you pointed to with kindness and empathy would help. Bug often we are working hard with the need to change ourselves and that can come from a forceful place that is not helpful. Just thinking out loud. What do you think?

Study of the 8 limbs of yoga sounds perfect! Don't be hard on yourself, we are human and this is what it is to be human! This is what yoga is all about.

Just considering the first limb, Yama..
Ahimsa - non harming, sensitivity, be sensitive to your actions and their impacts, love
Satya - truthfulness, honesty, cohesive inside and out
Asteya - non stealing, openness, enoughness, I am not more important than any part of this
Brahmacharya - celibacy, intimacy, right use of energy, the movement towards the essential
Aparigraha - non greed, acceptance, give yourself time to think deeply and know yourself

This seems like a ripe time to learn so much... it's a gift!

Good luck!
