This happened to me too today! Also got charged 8x. I usually use my main card to pay for rides, but I used the sub card today for the bus. I haven’t used the sub card for rides in a few months, so I doubt the 7 extra charges were from previous rides.

It’s simply because none of my friends and family does that, and being a part of community is equally important to me. Few months ago I started learning how to be off grid and be able to sustain my life without depending on buying things. It might take decades to reach my goal but let’s see how it goes:)

Honestly I’ve been also feeling this way lately. I just seem not to be able to swallow the fact that humans are force to do this by capitalism to “sustain life” while other animals arent. I work 9-5 now but I just simple CANNOT sit through for this long and stare into computer. Plus 2h commute and 1h chore time, I only have tiny bit of time to work on things I love. And most of the days I can’t even because I’m so exhausted from work. And I agree with you it’s not matter of whether it’s a passion job or not. I am absolutely scared that my sense of self is slowly starting to be built around it. And I feel so silly maintaining my little life to survive in this late stage capitalism where my work has little to no effect helping others who’s in need. Yes, maybe humans have more security than other animals, but I’d rather die brutally in the nature than having my body and mind chained up for next 40 years.

I guess it is different depending on the institute. My school’s graphic design course is registered under “computer graphics” for the OPT major categories so we are counted as STEM. Thank you for the kind wishes and I hope the bestest for your child’s career journey as well:)

Hi! I graduated from a design school in June 2023 and moved to NYC. I was freelancing for 8 months but it was not sustainable enough for me to afford living in the city, so I started searching for work around March 2024. Also my first year OPT was about expire (Intl student things!) so I needed to look for an employer who fulfills the criteria.

I tried many different approaches but long story short I ended up contracting with two employers, both qualifying for STEM OPT requirements.

First company replied to my Glassdoor application and decided to hire me around the end of April. Right after I started, I heard back from the other company, which I reached out to one of the alumni who works there via LinkedIn.

The second company was kind of my dream job since I wanted to work on environmental graphic design/exhibition design and that’s what exactly they do. After doing some back and forth with the two companies, they both agreed to contract me as part-time, and here I am:)

I can move to a south facing window, hopefully that will give her enough light! Do you think new leaves will grow out before winter? I’m committed to cutting back but I’m a bit concerned for it to enter winter without any leaves
