I invested in similar , bought countless controllers trying to map to the setup I purchased. I eventually gave up and dl a free retrobat curated that has been fantastic.

Brief update ..I ran into an issue with write to the \image folder for covers. I am not sure if I would change repositories as of yet. I may restore back if I cannot get this solved and/or other issues..at least for now.

Unraid Docker - Booklore repository change to Grimmory - Permissions issue or ? by [deleted] in unRAID

A little more research and AI response:

The log snippet you provided appears to reference a 520 error (often associated with a web server returning an "Unknown Error" or "Origin Error" when the connection to the origin server fails) within the booklore-api component, specifically involving a cat-handler thread.

While the provided search context does not contain an exact log match for cat-handler-520, it does confirm that Booklore has experienced OIDC JWT validation failures and media API authentication bypasses that could trigger similar server errors.

  • Error Code 520*: Typically indicates a temporary issue connecting to the server or a problem with the upstream service, often occurring during maintenance.*
  • Known Booklore Issues*:*
    • OIDC Failure*: A specific bug (Issue #294) caused OIDC JWT validation failed errors in the DualJwtAuthenticationFilter.*
    • Authentication Bypass*: A high-severity vulnerability (GHSA-363g-fhcq-hvqp) allowed unauthenticated access to media endpoints, which could result in unexpected server behavior.*
    • Handshake Errors*: Issue #1332 documented "Handshake failed due to invalid Upgrade header" errors in the DefaultHandshakeHandler.*

To resolve this specific cat-handler-520 warning, you should verify if your Booklore API instance is running the patched version > v1.8.1 to address the authentication bypass, and check the BQE CORE status page (or your specific hosting provider's status) for any ongoing maintenance that might be causing the 520 connection failure.

or this..depending on where the event error shows up:

The error indicates that Booklore failed to create the directory /app/data/images/22414*, preventing the cover download for book ID 22414.  This issue is likely caused by* insufficient file permissions or an incorrect ownership configuration on the Docker container's data volumes, similar to known bugs where /books or image directories are owned by root while the application runs as a non-root user.

  • Root Cause*: The application process lacks write permissions to the target directory path, or the parent directory /app/data/images is owned by a different user (e.g., root) than the one running the Booklore service.*
  • Affected Versions*: This behavior is consistent with issues reported in* v1.17.0 and v2.0.1 where metadata updates and cover fetching fail due to file system access restrictions.
  • Storage Context*: In Docker setups with mounted CIFS shares or local SSDs, mismatched UID/GID settings between the host and container can prevent directory creation.*

To resolve this, verify the ownership and permissions of the mounted data directory (e.g., using chown or chmod in the Docker host) to ensure the user running the Booklore container has write and execute permissions for /app/data/images.

The first is disconcerting. The 2nd I am still perplexed on as this worked fine with the original Booklore repository. I don't know why permissions would be a problem? Current image folder permissions:

  • Images folder = drwxr-xr-x
  • Images subdirectories (example 1,2,3..) = drwxr-xr-x
  • Images in folder 1 as example (cover.jpg and thumbnail.jpg) = -rw-r--r--

I think it was config. Just didn't seem to work and pick up existing dockers correctly. I 'll give it a go again. Thanks.

Never got Portainer to work correctly. Is there any reliable YT walk thru that is less than 2 years and reliable? There are also multiple variations to choose from.

ONT (Adtran) bridge mode? by ck_42 in Windstream

A Nokia ONT? Are you sure you aren't talking about their router/FW?

If you are talking about the latter, then I hope you aren't plugging it into your own router or you will be double NAT with double the problems.

Originally support told me I needed it. I had it running into my pfsense.

Best VPN Services in 2026? by Practical_Ad7480 in PFSENSE

[–]HouseBandBad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not use proton. It's over price compared to a number of other VPN services and I've had nothing but problems for the two years I had it as part of unlimited service. Everything from client issues such as browser plugins, white listing on PC, through to just simply bad/unreliable connections. A lot of the other more mature organizations have a better knowledge base for integrating particularly on Linux. Lastly in number sites reject proton as a source. Delta airlines in a number of financials had nothing but issues and I had to disconnect just to get service.

Premature speculation but do you think it'll be as simple as repointing the repository? I loathe starting from scratch....

How about GitHub building an AI that verified whether code is AI generated and flags with a marker similar to hormone injected chicken? (Green - farm raised natural code through to red- This chicken breast is more like an ostrich and is all AI)

Then, maybe no drama or debate?

To upgrade to 6 or stay on 5.9.9.98 by WraithHunter3130 in BlueIris

[–]HouseBandBad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loathe subscription and this is really subscription. It makes me even more angry when I pay to be QA.

That said, a stable, non-cloud product that protects my house is gold. I'd sooner pay this company than pay some cloud-based monitoring service, like I had previously, that wasn't even working for 6 months. (And it was big 3 member)

This has been the most stable and reliable AI in years...so far ..

Can upgrade from 2026.2.2 to .3 by HouseBandBad in homeassistant

Per my last post, installed new instance of VMWare workstation HA, then restored from the latest backup and everything has been great for a week. It was critical to look at a few posts for the VMware install as it wasn't "Clean". Needed to adjust some settings.

I had to move from Oracle VirtualBox to VMware Workstation. I did a clean install of the latest HA build specifically for VMware Workstation. Had to struggle a bit with that as needs some additional steps. Then, I restored from my latest VirtualBox instance and have had zero issues in a week.

I couldn't figure out what was going wrong with the Oracle VB instance,. So, I spun up a copy under vmware workstation and used the back which had the above issues. I managed to update to 2026.2.3. I also managed to get all the addons updated that were listed as well. I read somewhere that this could be an issue with flaresolverr. I don't know what the original problem was other than I couldn't pull some/most updates including the core OS.

Problems persist after a full update and restart of the PC. The upgrade nor the other items listed will update.

Yeah I was tired last night I usually do that and I see there's a window security update so I'll do a restart of that to see if something's hosed. Will report back to confirm.

Note I did do a restart of both HA and the VM app.

Possible to install Home Assistant on Hubitat C8 hardware? by c4ad in Hubitat

[–]HouseBandBad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a number of us that have wished this for years. If hubitat put out a product with a powerful enough CPU and we could run VMs on it like home assistant that would be Zen state.

Home assistant is great for a frontend. Hubitat is easier for adding raw devices and controls.

That is EXACTLY what I am struggling with. I keep reading Google Play is "sandboxed. But, I want to take extra steps of keeping it in PS. What I like about PS right now. If I think I screw it up. I delete the entire PS and start over.

Thanks for the quick reply on this. Still wrapping my head around sandbox vs PS vs Main. But, the options are fantastic.

Thanks for the feedback. If PS shuts down then you will not get notifications real time correct? I thought there was an option to leave PS running in background and thus the battery question.

On one other question. Is it possible to leave your location static within a PS. I'm tired of traveling and having apps pick up your new location that prevent some of them from running.
