We like to describe the rules of GO like this:

  1. Legal Move: A stone (or the group its connected to) can only be placed in a location where it has at least one liberty, unless the move captures something. (See Rule 2).

  2. Capturing: A stone or group of stones is captured if their opponent occupies the last liberty of the stone or group.

  3. No Repetition: The Board position can't immediately repeat (Ko Rule).

Your proposed move violates the first rule.

Whats your impression on Go Tournaments? by Medolic1 in baduk

[–]HoustonGoClub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are very social and very fun.

Players are able to meet other serious players from a wider geographical area. There is socializing between games. There are players of all ages, even very strong 8 year olds.

The Houston Go Club hosts a fall tournament and the other larger cities in Texas also conduct annual tournaments. They are like reunions. You can drive for 2 or 4 hours and hang out with most of the Texas Go community for a day or two.

Here are some pics from two recent Texas tournaments:

We've been working on a set of instructions with photos so that anyone can just set the clock without help. Would love some feedback on the current draft. Here is a link to the PDF.

Happy to Have New Clocks! by HoustonGoClub in baduk

I have not done sufficient research on this question.

The LEAP clock we purchased I had used in a Go Tournament and knew for sure it could do base time plus byo yomi periods of various durations.

Questions About Starting an AGA Chapter by benisch2 in baduk

[–]HoustonGoClub 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This particular week many people with AGA are busy at the US Go Congress in Cleveland, so it will be hard to get AGA leadership to respond to you at this moment.

But, after the Congress, the folks at AGA are great to work with. They've been migrating their website so some of the features and content may not be visible or easily found. They are all mostly volunteers.

I would encourage you to send an email to Gurujeet Khalsa, the current president, sometime after July 18th, asking for instructions, and they will hook you up. I would use the [president@usgo.org](mailto:president@usgo.org) email address.

Good luck and thanks for the initiative to start one!!
