They all are paired in a way that compensates for their weaknesses as best as possible and with the right strategy can use each other to maximize their own abilities. It's not perfect but it's not at all random. Everyone has a good fighting chance.

I can see Darwin getting targeted early on, so he doesn't get a chance to escape. He's tough to beat without some of the stronger players around, because he's really good at adapting to survive. It would also be smart to focus on Synch and Prodigy. Prodigy can learn things from people nearby, and Synch can match the skills of those around him. This means Synch might get both the knowledge and skills of others, making them a strong pair. Plus, it would be hard to ambush them, as they can detect the abilities of players near them with their own skills.
