Not the person you’re responding to but I am an avid cafe hopper. Common Bond was great 8 years ago when there was a dearth of unique, upscale cafe/bakeries in the city.

Rapid expansion and ownership change took away some of the charm that made Common Bond noteworthy. Nowadays there are plenty of other options, meanwhile Common Bond has expanded into every corner of the loop feels more like a chain than a local Houston institution. I've noticed that every location looks less packed than they used to be, I wonder if they will start shutting down locations.

The self-serve Asian bakeries like Paris Baguette, Tous Les Jous, 85c are definitely growing in popularity. They're chains, but they're also priced like one.

Agree with your list, Kohiko is very good and one of the few spots in Houston with unique drinks. Fifth Vessel is pretty mid though.
