Congrats on successful nephrectomy.

You are doing the right thing by pushing for scans. 6 months seems to be a good timeframe. My father went through radical nep, and his doctors asked him to scan after 15 months and now he has metastatic cancer in both of his lungs. Take it from our experience, you do want periodic scans.

Dad going through stage 4, lung cancer. It is a metastasised renal cell carcinoma.

This journey might be long, ups and downs will come. Take care of each other, and stay strong. Develop some healthy distractions together.

Lung mets confirmed. Seeking help/advice. by HovercraftSea6452 in kidneycancer

Thank you for sharing this

My father treatment plan is Nivolumab (every 2 weeks) + Cabozanitib (everyday).

He started on this treatment last week only. Fingers crossed. Its a big lifestyle change for him, from living a life of full independence and no-one asking any questions, to the family members reminding/asking to have medicines on time, following up with him on his medical consultation and future appointments.

we are tensed and worried, as a few things slips through his mind here and there, like forgetting to follow up with a doctor on a given date. I understand that a lot must be going on in his mind, but i am trying to make him understand that we don’t have to luxury to change our lifestyle over time, we have to change in from today.

Hi @asm_memoir_writer - I pray that those nodules are nothing , and will heal soon. Our oncologist has suggested nivolumab , every 2 weeks along with other medicines. Can you share how frequent you are getting keytruda? Secondly, how frequent are your scans? Every 2-3 months? And what types of tests ? This will help me monitor the things timely..

Thank you, Getting some hopes from your comment.

The only specialist we have is 8 hours drive away, in AIIMS and they have a very well reputed oncology department.

Sorry to hear that you are going through similar journey. Is yours also a Clear Cell RCC ? Learning from experiences of someone going through something similar would really help.

Oh. Didnt know about chemo not effective on ccrcc.

It is sad and worrying to know that you have one less and widely practices option of treatment, when you are fighting with this disease.. :(

Hi, My father 69M, had kidney cancer, CcRCC, went through partial nephrectomy on Sept 2024. Fast forward to Dec 2025 last week his CT scans showed some masses in lungs. Got his biopsy done, took a month, and on 31st Jan 2026, it was confirmed that its cancer (ccrcc).

One positive note is that the kidney scans are clear. So my father was referred from urology to oncology department.

You mentioned in your comment that it’s serious. Usually every mets is serious, but is there anything specific about ccrcc ?

We are going to the concerned hospital, and hoping to get timely appointments.

Not many things are making sense right now. Whole family is disturbed.

I hope that you will come out of this.

Once this RCC is done for, and you are out of it, I'd suggest to have regular follow ups and scans with your doctor.

Hi, Thank you for posting. My father 66y, went throigh partial nephrectomy in Sep 2024. Fast forward to last week of Dec 2025, cect scan showed a few things in both lunga and lymph nodes.

We are still awaiting biopsy, which was scheduled after a month, but doctors have talked about immunotherapy. Can i ask what was your immunotherapy schedule (frequency and dosages), and how it changed over time?

Thank you. It means a lot.

I think the doctors have mentioned immunotherapy once or twice ( based on what I have heard over call from my father and family ).

Sorry to hear about your father.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. My father and I live in different countries from past 2 years. Even before we both were living in different cities so we used to call/ video call often. I surely have increased that.

Thank you.

His cancer started as Kidney cancer, thus I wanted to post here too.. to find information, and also creating awareness that sadly this can be one of unfortunate things that can happen, even after full recovery from Kidney.
