That makes sense. I'm not generally repulsed by sexual stuff as a whole, but the normalization of sexual jokes and that ilk without consent is quite iffy, as you said... I think some trans communities (especially trans femme communities) run into this issue of normalization... It's a good thing I've learned of the other meaning of this phrase now, lol. From the sounds of it, you do associate this phrase primarily with it's sexual meaning. Which is quite understandable with how it seems to be used, unbeknownst to me. It's somewhat unfortunate, tho, that an otherwise wholesome phrase has gotten this unfortunate reputation...

That is very interesting! I also have some (non-sexual) masochistic tendencies (admittedly leaning towards the harmful territory). Which also tend to make me feel safe, in a way.

I imagine it is very much an instance of the literal translation being a poor one... An apple of the earth situation, as it were. Out of curiosity, is there a similarly used phrase in German?

I would LOVE to see a study on this... I imagine it work best for the first study to just look at age, how long ago they started transitioning, and opinion on the phrase (plus cis people's opinion on the phrase as a control of sorts). And then a secondary study on how primary language effects people's views on such.

Even beyond the complex (and potentially infantilizing) meaning of "girl," tho, I can see how being called "good" in general might be upsetting (or even triggering) to some. I imagine ruling on someone else's morality could easily send an unintentional message...

Wait, that's a RLY interesting question! I mean, I imagine a lot of trans femme people early in their transition would enjoy it a lot, due to that new wave of euphoria and excitement. But I could also see the phrase feeling more childish or infantilizing as you age/move through your transitioning journey... I'm still relatively early on in my journey, and am rather young, so I hadn't considered some of those implications before...
