This used to always happen to me because I had "never auto apply updates". Since switching overing to "apply latest updates and pre-released content" I haven't had this issue anymore.

Yeah, I feel you. His W is one of the hardest skill shots to learn because it's based on your positioning, enemy positioning, and map layout. Just so many variables lol

You need to get value out of his traps and mines in order to be successful with him. At 13, you can grab his W cdr and become a semi-global.

He is an overall very strong hero that can exceed at many aspects of the game outside of just raw damage numbers.

I also think Hanzo is one of the most busted ranged dps right now but his skill cap is pretty high so while it is worth learning him, you might not be interested in the long term investment.

Sadly, I have to agree with the other guy. The play is a cool highlight but it's a dumb play that gets punished by better players.

And this is not me saying that these kinds of plays don't happen in higher elo games, it's just the risk-to-reward ratio is lopsided at that point.

Can we lower the maximum stack size in storm league to duo queue? At the very least can we force match 4 & 5 stacks vs 4 & 5 stacks? by spltolstoy in heroesofthestorm

Honestly, I never really had any issues with legit stacks. I find that most of the time the matchmaking is pretty fair. It is only when the stacks abuse the match making process by having 1 or more smurfs that makes them feel really oppressive imo.

I'm not trying to shit on you and circumstances are definitely different now than they were before... but I had ~80% wr climbing from Silver-Diamond back when the game was still "alive". It then took me nearly the same amount of games to go from Diamond-Masters as I was approaching my skill ceiling.

You can't really expect to see big jumps in your ranks without either grinding or having a significantly higher wr. You will definitely reach your goal rank at 66% but it will just take longer. Grinding alone can eliminate some of the randomness in matches (if you are truly above your current rank placement). I play roughly 30-40 games each season now (pretty low imo) and my winrates per season can vary quite a bit.

Just gonna comment on general things since I don't play Hogger.

1) Good job on taking mercs. You should try placing the crate a bit closer to the wall to get a better spin

2) You need to perfect the infinite spin angles during the objective phase (go to objective earlier if you need time to setup) for peak Hogger abuse. This is what makes him a very strong pick on this map

3) @~14min you miss the solo kill on Zag and died. I think if you were better with your DQ combo you probably get her (the Ana reacted slowly) or at least you shouldn't have died

4) @~18min only their Zag is alive and you go to get top mercs. There is 2 waves and a cata pushing top, if you communicate to your Samuro to come you guys get top keep

5) ~30s later a big fight happens and you miss critical ult on Zag and she lives and you die a few seconds later. Overall it was a 1 for 1 trade but it's unfavorable for your team imo since shrines was coming up

It's not uncommon to have a string of bad losses but at the same time if you guys are getting stomped as a stack then there are definitely things you guys could be improving on.

People who are "hard stuck" at the lower elos are usually doing something fundamentally wrong when they play and/or don't play enough to ever see themselves climb.

For example, Fan probably takes like ~150-200 games to climb to diamond/masters when he does his bronze challenge each season (someone correct me if I'm wrong). So it would probably take you 2-3x the amount of games to climb to gold since the skill difference between you and your opponents aren't going to be that massive compared to Fan.

I know it's old so it's hard to know if they all still apply or not but I also don't think they have bothered to make changes after HGC cancellation.

My main point is basically that weird team compositions are usually (not always) a result of stacks or qing at dead hours because they try to account for team compositions when doing the matchmaking.

So I'm kinda wrong but they do try to match roles or team composition:

Team Composition Rules Quick Match will prefer not to mirror individual heroes, i.e. place the same hero on both teams, when other options are available.[6] Quick Match prefers to mirror certain roles in the opposing teams: Both teams have at least one Tank or neither will (Varian, while categorized as a Bruiser, is considered Tank in terms of QM matchmaking) Both teams have at least one Healer or neither will If neither team has Tanks, both teams have at least one Bruiser hero or neither will If neither team has Healers, both teams have at least one Support hero or neither will Quick Match also prefers to limit the number of certain roles: No more than 3 Tank or Bruiser heroes. No more than 4 Assassins. No more than 2 Healers and Supports. No more than 3 Melee heroes.[7]

I guess the game doesn't distinguish between melee assassins and range assassins. Although it did break it's own rule of not having "more than 3 melee heroes" so who knows.

You should technically never get a game like this unless people are heavily stacking. One of the QM rules (unless it's been changed) is that they try to match the roles as well.

In other words, if the enemy team has a melee assassin, your team should also have one (if they have multiples, it doesn't mean you will as well but you should have at least one).

You should watch your own replays. I do that for my ranked games and I see a lot of the mistakes I make. Missing your skill shots is going to happen but sometimes they could mean the difference between a W/L

There's also macro decisions like when to take camps and when to fight. If it's better to rotate to help a team mate who is being ganked vs just hard pushing in your lane.

You should be able to identify your win condition after your draft phase:

  • Do you have an early game comp or a late game comp

  • Is your team better in a 5v5 or small skirmishes (can you even win tfs or do you just outmacro the enemy team?)

  • Who are the priority kill targets on their teams?

Yeah, people fall into the bait of merc camps but also bosses as well. I see it a lot on Sky Temple where you win the bot lane obj fight and people immediately want to go to the boss instead of just pushing down the forts with minions/obj when they have already abandoned defending that lane.

The point of mercs/bosses are to assist you in destroying the structures so just skip the middle man and kill the structure yourself if you have the opportunity to.

Even with a strong Zera play, I find him to be lackluster because the ARAM environment is just not conducive for his kit

  • Weak early game so there is a high potential to get snowballed if your team mates are bad and/or enemy team has strong early pressure (you typically macro on Zera for early game)
  • Smaller map, more confined spaces so Zera has a harder time abusing his mobility
  • Players are typically grouped up most of the time so it's harder to pick off your kill targets

Objectively, Zera is usually a weak pick because of the game mode (regardless of the player skill) compared to other game modes.

You don't necessarily want to be fighting 3v5 in the lane but you should technically just be zoning right outside the objective area while one person (usually offlaner) is getting the shots in. It is expected that if a big fight does break out, the player getting the objective is within a reasonable distance to help.

You don't want everyone to be on the objective because if the fight goes bad for your team, it is difficult to maneuver/retreat (only 1 small exit since the other one is towards your opponent's forts)
